Abe- Very happy for you. Your old shock ECU 183960, was a bit too soft. Abe is the first owner to try one of the Shock Abosrber ECUs, 205618 and 205619, that were for the early Pre-AN 52556 cars, but created well after the time when AN 52556 was built by Ferrari. Should have had the latest algorithms available at the time of manufacture. The parts numbers are post 202954, which came with AN 52556 575Ms, but pre-date the last 575M ECU on non-HGTC cars, 210577, and the HGTC ECU, 210578. Now if that last paragraph does not put you to sleep, you are as nutty as I am. Terry, As you may recall I swapped out shock ecu #183960 for #201674 last year. Now after reading Abe's and your posts I'm curious to know if there is any difference in part #201674 versus parts #205618/9?? Also, can these ecu's be reprogrammed?? Someone told me a new device called a DaVinci may be able to do such a thing. |

Rick- I am not sure if the Leonardo can reflash ECUs or not. You can contact them and ask them. There are liability issues that go along with doing that. Duram Plummer, who does the Durametric diagnostic tools for Porsches and BMWs, is working on tools for Ferraris, and worried about reflashing ECUs. If you do not know exactly what you are doing, you could create problems. For example, if you reflashed a pre-Assembly Number 52556 Shock Absorber ECU with the HGTC shock ECU software, you would get a permanent Suspension Fault indication because of the missing steering angle sensor data. If however, all you did was update the algorithms for the shock scheduling, no problem. Very complicated solution. You would have to understand all the relationships between at least 9 different shock absorber ECUs. diagnostic tool for Ferrari, Maserati, Lamborghini, Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Porsche and other high line automobiles On the Shock Absorber ECU, I am not sure 205618 (201673 replacement) or 205619 (201674 replacement) offer significant improvements over their predecessors. Since both apparently predate the HGTC ECU, I would say they would offer, at most, a slight improvement over 201673/201674 and I certainly would not spend $2K to upgrade. If starting from scratch with 183960 and I were rich, I definitely would consider that swap. My swap cost me $275 to 201674, after I sold my 201673 to a friend in Australia (Philip) who had 183960. Thanks Terry. Appreciate your thoughts and comments. You have me beat as my change to 201674 cost me approx. $600.00. I didn't have anyone to sell 183960 to. Who would want it?? Pretty funny to me that I thought it was called a DaVinci and it's actually called a Leonardo. My next issue is the leather replacement on the dash which I will tackle next month once back in Florida. |

Rick- If it is not too badly pulled, Bradan has pulled the dash, Leatheriqued, stretched and reglued. No fun either way, since pulling the dash is a huge pain. Mine has been redone with lots of spare material.

Terry, I have followed some of Bradon's posts. They certainly appear to do fine work but not exactly around the corner. Once the car is back in Naples it is only 15 minutes to the shop that will do the repairs. They do excellent work as well. As far as my dash, it is not pulled to badly but prefer to redo so that there is plenty of spare material as well. Looking forward to the repair as I can't stand seeing those wrrinkles beginning under the windshield. |

Doug- When the dash leather shrinks, it pulls loose at the front of the dash near the windshield. If you put extra material in there, it can shrink quite a bit and still have leather showing. Rick- Cannot blame you, especially if your dash is black. Mine is charcoal with red stitching, and was not fun to match. Doug, exactly as Terry said. In my case there is both pulling/shrinkage and slight bubbling on top of the dash. I will post pictures as I get closer to the repair. Terry, dash is black/beige with the top half being black of course. Stitching is in black. I'll be curious to see what the final cost will be. I may have the rear shelf done in leather at the same time. Any thoughts on cost for both?? |
