Default sticky interior parts 550

The sticky "rubber" coating on some of my interior parts has been mostly fixed. I clean the goo off with laquer thinner. Some of the parts needed to be spray painted. The mirror control switches will need to be disassembled before I clean the part.

Is there a question in there? IF asking about paint, contact one of our sponsors/members as he has a site Home Page

would like to see pics of your final product or step-by-step.

Mike, the accepted fix as I'm sure you know is to pull all the offending pieces and send them to Robbie @ stickynomore.com.

I recently had similar problems with the rubberised coatings on a non-Ferrari car, and I discovered that plain old brake fluid took the sticky stuff and old paint off without melting the plastic underneath. I ran tests with many well known solvents and found that the brake fluid worked the best and didn't harm anything.

Lacquer thinner, acetone, and MEK type solvents really were too aggressive and melted the underlying plastic.

Once I had the finish down to bare plastic, I simply scuffed it up with a used (not a fresh) Scotchbrite pad, then primed and painted it, using rattle can paint from SEM (a professional grade, canned spray paint, and really amazing stuff)

Here's a few before, during & after pics. Obviously this approach doesn't work on pieces where you have decals or painted lettering, but for simple pieces, it works fine.

Nice work: I'll need to do this to my steering console too: BTW:

can you give me the can paint number for the color you used? I'm almost certain the color is standard in all models.

Rik, it was their Color Coat line and I think it was #15303 Graphite, but again, this wasn't on a Ferrari, so be careful.....

Brake fluid is a good idea; hadn't thought of that. Also, using Scotch Brite to prepare it. I used Rustoleum spray paint, one of the best spray can paints.
I will have to disassemble the mirror switch panel to fix it. . . .
I am having the belts & motor mounts done at Tillack's shop in Redondo Beach.

Mike I tried both Rustoleum and DupliColor and was disappointed in the results, then a guy who's forgotten more about painting than I'll ever know suggested this KEM paint, and the difference was night & day. It made me look like a much better painter than I am.

At $15 per can it was expensive, but worth it, but then high quality always is. Too, it was only available (at least in my area) from professional automotive finish distributors.

Can you advise what is that great looking car next to the 550?

I agree on the aggressive solvents, I tried brake fluid along with many other home remedies from Naval Jelly to alcohol and found it not very effective.

I even bought some very expensive "Guaranteed not to harm plastic" paint remover, Big failure!

Charlies Soap worked on some parts. I found the worse the condition the easier it was to clean. Basically I used alcohol and lots of rubbing. Lots of people use Easyoff, it didn't work that well for me.

There is a non-scratch Scotbrite pad available, it's blue and it works pretty well.

I also agree on the use of SIM paint, it's really good stuff, way better than Rustolium or Krylon and it's formulated especially for use on plastic.

www.stickynomore.com He's an owner(and sponsor) and a regular member on the site here. Actually a former owner since I think Robbie just sold his 355?

+1. Doesn't happen often that I don't recognise something, but this is a mystery. Beautiful mystery, too!

+2 and I know less than anyone but found in very interesting. Rear bumper missing? Trunk lines very interesting. Looks like some nice power in there too based on the robust looking exhausts.
