Default 456 US vs. 456 Euro

Hi all,

Ok, that's it, I'm finally ready to pull the trigger and accomplish my childhood dream: owning a Ferrari. I have a 2 year old son, so I'm going to start with a 456. I'll get to the more exotic 2 seaters later in life.

I currently live in the US, but I might move back to Europe in a year or two. Do you guys know if there are differences between a US 456 and a Euro 456? (other than the odometer in miles obviously)

Thanks!

Chris

Financially it would make zero sense to try to bring a 456 back to Europe from the US, you will need to pay both VAT and import duty.

The main differences will be the changes needed for the US cars to meet DOT/EPA but nothing really major, just a bit more weight.

Make sure you get a comprehensive PPI done on any 456 GT you are considering. Most are 10+ year old cars now and plenty of items will have needed to be replaced.

Well, that's the thing, because I move back I don't pay import or VAT duty... (if I own the car for at least a year before moving)

That's why I was wondering if the differences were as big as back in the 80's when US models were heavier and less powerful than their euro counterparts.

US models will still be heavier but not a huge difference. I believe there are restrictions on selling the car if you import it as part of a relocation.

Thanks, Boxer! I didn't know about the restrictions, I'll dig in and check if that's the case where I'm going.

Thanks again!
