I see that Ferrari has announced it will build a convertible 599 to initially be shown to existing clients privately in Maranello as opposed to debuted at a traditional car show, though it will be made public in August at Pebble Beach. According to an article in AutoWeek (July 5, 2010), the 599 convertible will be built in low volume. According to di Montezemolo, "It's only going to be available to a very select number of clients who've been asking us for an open-top version of the 12-cylinder for quite some time now." It won't be called a Superamerica, but maybe "something classical, like Fiorano" he said. It will have an extra 25 horsepower to offset the added weight while maintaining performance with the coupe. That is good to see Ferrari filling out it's line-up. The notion of only making it available to long-term clients who have been asking for a convertible V-12 is odd. Sounds a little too exclusive to me for a convertible 599. Can't wait to see the pictures of the car. |

I believe there is another thread on here with pictures already in it. And the car really does look incredible.

It won't be called Fiorano because the 599 GTB is already called Fiorano. Luca must've had a brain freeze there? Onno |

Baller, I didn't spot another thread with photos of the 599 convertible. Can you post the link if possible to that thread? Also anxious to see the car.

Good link, but those photos are the coupe depiction of where the top will be removed. I love the aero flying buttresses on the 599. Sad to see them go with the top chop... Still, it will be interesting to see if Ferrari does something interesting to the convertible 599 design. Something uniquely special since Luca says how rare the car will be. I'm anticipating something out of the ordinary. |
