Default Matsuda Collection Ferrari 250 GTO on Sale

Late last fall, I happened to meet a US broker here in Tokyo. At the meeting, he mentioned that Mr. Matsuda's Ferrari 250 GTO would be brokered (for sale). Mr. Matsuda is an avid collector here. He used to have this Ferrari museum an hour away, west of Tokyo. My understanding is that due to his age, he is letting go of his collections gradually. Thought someone knew a story or something regarding this 250 GTO sale ? w/ smiles Jimmy

According to the esteemed Mr. Massini, posting this morning on F-chat, the car (#4675) is for sale through private treaty at the RM auction in Monaco. So - the car won't be on public auction but is for sale.

At the peak he had three. I was fortunate enough when I lived there to see both his collection in Tokyo (not near the quality of Ed's photos):

And the two in Gotemba:

I know the first link I posted was 3445 and that was sold 4 - 5 years ago. Amazing collection he had.

Yep! That would be the one. I'm fond of this car because it was the first 250 GTO I'd ever seen in the flesh. My g/f of the time couldn't understand my excitement when I saw this and the Yellow F50. Here are the details I have on this GTO (and a few more photos):

Interesting read (because of the number 112 on the hood, albeit wrong body style for what is described here): "...The V12 engine was more heavily modified throughout its duty in the long wheelbase chassis. The first version was dubbed Tipo 112 and was very similar to the 250 MM unit with separate intake ports for every cylinder. This was quickly replaced by the Tipo 128 with one siamesed port for every two cylinders."

from http://www.ultimatecarpage.com/car/1...erlinetta.html

There was a gathering of 250s recently, and I recall a fantastic magazine photo of about 25 250 GTs lined up together. I have so many magazines, but came up empty-handed when I tried to find that photo to scan and post. If anyone knows the picture I'm talking about, please post it, as it is a fantastic photo.

Jimmy, Any plans to keep it in Japan? Would go nicely with your 275 GTB.

ONE OF THE WORLD’S MOST DESIRABLE FERRARIS COMES TO MARKET
• RM Auctions offers 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO for private treaty sale
LONDON, England (2 February, 2010) − RM Auctions, the global leader in the collector car market with a specialization in the sale of Ferraris, is representing the 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO (chassis no. 4675 GT) – one of the most coveted cars in the world, for private treaty sale.
In addition to its impressive motor car auction results at prestigious locations around the globe, including the sale of seven of the top 10 Ferraris ever sold at auction, RM generates an average of $50 million in private treaty transactions year over year.
“The Ferrari GTO is unquestionably one of the most iconic and coveted cars in the world,” says Max Girardo, Managing Director of RM Europe. “This is truly a rare occasion for collectors to acquire such an important piece of automotive history and we are pleased to be chosen by 4675 GT’s current custodian to represent it on the open market.”

The 1963 Ferrari 250 GTO (chassis no. 4675 GT) is one of only 36 250 GTOs originally produced and one of a limited few with Series II GTO bodywork. In addition to being considered one of the most beautiful cars ever built by Ferrari, the GTO was tremendously successful in competition, securing multiple World Championships for the Modenese car builder.

In April 1963, 4675 GT left the factory finished in Rosso Cina. It was raced by such drivers as Guido Fossati, Jean Guichet, Oddone Sigala, Vincenzo Nember and Luigi Taramazzo and proved itself a tremendously capable racing car, rarely finishing outside the top three in its class and achieving numerous race wins. It participated in the full range of competitive events, including hillclimbs, endurance races and rallies.

The present owner acquired 4675 GT in 1996, and has maintained it in his exceptional, world-renowned Japanese collection ever since. Most recently 4675 GT has participated in the ultra-private events reserved only for GTO owners, namely the 35th and 45th GTO Anniversary Tours in France and California.

For more information about the purchase of this car, please contact Max Girardo at RM Auctions on +44 (0) 20 7851 7077.

Very cool, Andrew. He had 4 GTO's, apparently, according to this poster on another forum:

Quote:
He sold 3673 SA (4-liter, LHD) in 2002, Serial No. 3445 GT (Series I, LHD) in 2003, and Serial No. 3505 GT (Series I, RHD) in 2005.

Therefore, 4675 GT is the VERY LAST one he's letting go (i.e. of the four he's owned).
The mint green (3505GT) one I've seen at Goodwood in 2007 and 2009. Impossible to photograph in its glass cage, but here you go.

Ho Ho Ho. Don't put ideas in me, Boxer. I may seriously ask those Chinese car thief professionals to swift her away, boxed in parts, shipped away to China. Then, we can all enjoy this GTO !!! w/ smiles Jimmy

Those are very nice pics, Andrew. I am sure everyone would love to see the rest of the museum pics, if you have them. Mr. Matsuda's collections were impressive. I thought the nearby Porsche Museum was his creation too ? w/ smiles Jimmy

Was 3673 SA a GTO? I think it was a rebody, if no,t he had sold it before I moved to Japan. I saw his collection 3 times and never saw but 3 250 GTOs but its quite possible the 4th was elsewhere.

I don't know - 3673 is not in my list, but I don't have all the chassis numbers. As mentioned, this was a comment by another poster.
