| I’m looking forward to learning from the abundance of knowledge on here. Images are of my 1978 308GT4, Rosso Chiaro, 31,642 miles (as of today) and a sunroof, for those 5 weeks a year in England! |

QM- Welcome to Ferrari Life. That is a beautiful GT4 and Doug is correct, she looks brand new. Sounds like a very late car as a 78. I see you have XWXs on her, too, which really makes 60s and 70s vintage cars feel correct. Luckily, they are a lot longer lasting than the ones I had in the 70s. Look forward to hearing how you found her and some driving impressions.

Doug- His tires are Michelin XWXs, the standard tire on the 60s and 70s Porsche 911S, Dino, Daytona, and GTC4.

| Thanks for the comments, it’s been well looked after over the years and whilst it’s in my care, I will do the same for the next owner. It comes with every bit of paper work, tools, window crank, special plug is dash light, all those great extras that are often lost. And yes it is a late car for 1978 and was originally sold 29th March 1979 by Maranello in the UK. Like most of the V8's and GT4's once the engine and gear box oil is warm it goes a treat. |

Looks very similar to rmd's 308 GT4. Think he is based in the same general area.

Yes your right, there very close in chassis number and registration plate, except he has the bigger wheels. I met him at a clubscuderia meet a few weeks back, hes a great guy and had his for 7 years if I recall, testament to the car I think. One thing we did notice when our cars were side by side was that on the back part of his roof he has two cut outs with a drilled or mesh backing like air vents. Anyone any ideas why some GT4s had this and others didnt? |

| Funny you should mention that. My GT4 has the same 2 cut outs as well (it's a 1977 model) and I have on occassion wondered what they were....

QM- I note you have the 7 1/2" wheels that were optional on the GTB/S. I was not sure whether those were optional or standard on the 78 GT4. Early cars had 6 1/2" wheels.

Beautiful car. Welcome to Ferrari Life. Only five weeks of good weather to use the sunroof in the UK? Surely you jest. Perhaps you and the car need to relocate to Arizona in the US. 360 & TR Cars & Coffee at CITY DOCK ANNAPOLIS 9am-noon Every Sunday F-CHAT Exile now living the Ferrari Life. |

Terry, These wheels we're an optional extra in 1978/79 and one that the original client specified. I've got a period price list from 1st of January 79 and the wide wheels were £326.43 including VAT. He also ordered the sunroof too at £437.60. And I am now looking at every roof shot of a GT4!! |

QM- Thanks, that adds another piece to the puzzle Barry and I were pondering. Does your pricelist also show the 16" wheels that were optional on the GTB/S at the same time? My 78 GTS came with those wheels. I have seen them on late GT4s.

Yes Terry it does list those 16" wheels that were optional for the 78/79 GTS, with Pirelli for the rubber. £1200 the set..... ouch!!!! Drop me a PM with your email and I will send you a scan of it if you want. Cheers Paul | |
