I thought I would formally introduce myself. I signed up last month and have been primarily reading threads. I am a 550 Barchetta owner (357/448) and a 2005 575M F1 owner. The 575 photo was at 5:30 AM this past Sunday while waiting for a few other guys for a spirited drive to Banff. |

Andrew, Domenic- Not only is it beautiful around Banff, but some of the best fly fishing in the world is near there. Taz Terry Phillips |

Thank you for the kind welcome gentlemen. Andrew, sorry but I don't have any photos of Banff on my computer. I am fortunate to live so close to Banff and the Ferrari group enjoys the drives through the nice curvy, twisty roadways. Thanks for the compliment Barry. (I wish I could have one F-car of every model, but I consider myself fortunate that I have the Maranellos.) ![]() Terry, have you had a chance to take in the scenery and fishing in this area? Thanks again guys and I look forward to learning a lot and forging friendships here. |

I am a V12 fan and now these cars are really starting to interest me. Domenic what if any are the engine or handling exhaust etc. upgrades on a Barchetta vs 550.

As far as the exhaust goes, the Barchetta has a Tubi with a Ceramic Coated X-Pipe that I purchased from the local Ferrari dealer. I started out with a 1978 308GTS in the early 90's and then owned a 1983 400i 5 speed car in 2004....that's when I started to like the V12's myself. ![]() They are all nice cars in their own right.

Just wondered if the Barchetta got the hp boost like the 575SA. Agree that all cars are special - and Ferrari raised the bar on each model.

I can keep up to my 575M and also kept up to a local 599 at up to 3rd gear easily....no joke. A lot of Ferrari guys are impressed by its get up and go for a 485hp engine vs my 575 and the 599.

Domenic- Affirmative, lots of differences in individual engines. A look a Bradan's dyno runs shows that with 30-40 hp differences in some cases. One of the differences in feel between a Barchetta and 575s before Assembly Number 52556 is that the Barchetta has a steering position sensor and the early 575Ms do not. The steering sensor provides lead for the shock absorbers to stiffen long before the accelerometers can feel the change. No idea why they left if off the 575 initially, but it does make a difference in handling feel, even if it does not actually affect ultimate cornering power. Naturally, my Assembly Number is 52428, so I just missed it. Those early Tubis make a pretty good sound with the center muffler intact, and sound full race with straight or X-Pipes. As far as the engine in my Barchetta, it is definitely one of the higher HP ones that were built in Maranello.

Domenic- You definitely got one of the good ones. On that day for that engine, all the parts and all the clearances probably fit as if the engine had been blueprinted. Somebody probably took extra care with psrts choice and assembly. It shows. When Penske and White received their 512M from the factory, everybody thought it was a travesty they had Traco go through the engine and tighten things up. Afterwards, though, the Sunoco 512M probably had a 10-20% power advantage over the other 512S and 512M Ferraris and was even more powerful than the 917s. Attention to detail pays off, and yours sounds like it got it. The fact they knew the engine was going into a Barchetta may have helped, too. Taz Terry Phillips |

Doug- The 612 Sessanta and the OTO had big differences from the earlier 612s, including a new Type F133H engine, about which I have been able to find little information. The 08/09 OM actually has incorrect info on the OTO. What we know is that the Sessanta and OTO had the 599 twin plate, nearly indestructible clutch and a new transaxle using the 599 transaxle case, plus the latest iteration of the Superfast F1 system. That is the main reason the OTO and Sessanta were never made available with three pedals. Not worth the money to implement for Ferrari. Keep wishing one of the pros would chime in with what was done to the F133H engine, but so far no luck. My usual technique of buying tech data and figuring it out for myself has not worked because the tech data is now hard to find or prohibitively expensive when you do find it. Taz Terry Phillips |
