Default One more new guy- Steve2z

Thank you all for a wonderful forum-At age 35 I've always had a passion for a Ferrari, from the earlier models, but now especially the 360 Modena, along with the 612. I've never had the ability in the past to make my passion a reality, but now, I've positioned myself into where there is a very good potential for one. It will take some time, but I've waited this long without a chance, I will be exploring the options that I can to put one into my life forever. I have been reading through numerous posts and doing as much research as I can on what to look for, what would influence my choices the most on what to buy, and how I need to change to allow this all to happen. Its been very good- I'm still a long way off, but by 45 having a 360 would be wonderful! Thank you all again- you all have a lot of knowledge, and I appreciate the sharing!

Steve

Thank you all- I have my budget figured out- 8-9 more years of depreciation- Eighty thousand dollars should provide for a very well cared for 360 Modena- manual is first preference, color is undecided- I believe I will know when I find the right one.

Hi Steve and welcome.

question...Where are you in the world?

Comment...I think your numbers are off a bit. Very nice 360 6 speed's are available now near $80K. I would expect those numbers to drop dramatically over the next 8-9 years.

I certainly hope the cost does drop, it will also mean the number of years drops as well!!!! I am in Corning, NY- I need to do some research on where any Ferrari guys(Mechanics and enthusiasts) would be close to me- We used to have a yearly event, but I believe that has stopped this year. I still have Watkins Glen about 20 miles away, so we still get some of the clubs around town on occasion.

Your about 3 hours from a very fine and trusted mechanic at Pocono sports car in Shohola PA. Jim McGee is Awesome. Can't speak to anything beyond that as its to far from me.

So I am going to do some research starting this year- If I maintain my budget figures(80,000 US dollars) what are the odds in 8-10 years that puts me in a 430 instead of a 360 or and this is where the research really comes in, along with some test drives, a 612? Totally different models I understand, but was just looking at the Ferrari certified models and thinking that long down the road, does the depreciation put me in a different car?

Obviously difficult to determine with any certainty but I would expect 80k will be 430 range in 8-10 years.

Steve
Personally (because patience is not something I have a lot of) I would consider reducing my $80K target considerably, and buying a 355. It's near the bottom of its depreciation curve, so I think it would be reasonably feasable that you could aquire a 355 in a lot less than the 8-9 yrs it might take to get to the 360 value. At the same time 360s will still be depreciating (slightly) so whilst you enjoy your 355 the 360 will come into the budget sooner or later... just a thought. (you could equally consider 348, 456, 328, the list goes on...)

Ummm. Nothing personally, but except for a well cared for 348, 456, 355, 328 or even 360 I would put my sites on the 430. Somehow the 430 might not be depreciated to the $80K [thinking it might easily there in 8 years] but that car is much more sorted and easier to maintain than the others I cite.

Thank you all for the advice- I had thought of getting an earlier F car, but I believe the 360/430 are what I'm looking for at the price point I believe I can get into. I will need to test drive several I believe, am since I'm not exactly super close to any dealers, perhaps my wife and I can plan a trip to one of the cities where there is a dealer with a used one, I can convince her as long as there is a mall around Plus she likes the New England area anyhow, although Philidelphia is a bit away as well.

Looks like I am headed up to Ferrari of New England the weekend of August 7th. My wifes birthday so she wants to go to Marthas vineyard, so I've detoured us a little bit for me to stop in and see first hand some of the art and technology up close with an eye toward the future- They have a silverstone 430 spider up there, so I can look at that color in person, plus currently a 575 in Nero. I will have to stay and chat a bit!
