Hi,

I´m Arturin, I´m 24 years old and I´m the proud owner of a 355 gts that i just purchased

I´ve been reading in this forum a few months ago but as I didn´t have the ferrari yet and I had nothing to tell I just waited.

So, I hope I learn a lot from all of you and share our passion for the F cars.

I will get the car home the 15-16th of this month. The only two days I don´t have to work.

I will bring it home and take it straight to the shop for a full service. That way I will be sure that everything is ok and i won´t have to worry about it for the next 3 years

By the way, I´ve seen that lots of people here do their own maintenance on the car which is something I love to do. In fact i do all the maintenance of all the 7 cars we-ve got at home. Unluckily I dont have a lift so i will have to take the 355 to the shop.

Do you guys who fix their cars (or the ones who don´t) know what is the api specification for the gearbox oil???

Cause theres lots of pages where they tell its a 75W-90 but they don´t say the most important thing of all! The API SpEC!

Welcome, and congrats. Looking fwd to seeing pics. Are you performing a full serrvice to include belts too? IF so, might want to take a strong look at the tension bearings, exhaust manifold, and the water pump when the engine is out. Also, perform a leak down/compression too.

Thanks for the welcome

Yes, the service will include belts, tension bearing, coolant hoses (by the way whats better silicon hoses or oem hoses?) all fluids and all that stuff. Maybe ill have the gearbox inspected to check the syncros wear.

One thing, does anybody know whats the recommended API for the gearbox oil??? Thats something i can´t find in any forum and I can´t believe noone has mentioned it yet!

Hi Arturin! Good to see a member from Spain.

Don't know what the API spec for the gearbox oil for 355 is for sure as recommended by Ferrari, it should be GL-5. This is what I use in my car: http://www.redlineoil.com/product.aspx?pid=47&pcid=7

308's have a common 2nd gear shifting issue and this stuff makes it go away. (the shifting issue that is, not the 2nd gear. )

(PS - I just looked and they have 2 distributers in Spain.)

Thanks

After search, research and more search I finally dicovered that the recommended api is GL-4, GL-5 /MT-1.

I know there are redline distributors in Spain but you know what the problem is? that they sell 1 quart of redline gear oil for 36 dollars It cheaper for me to bring it from the US.

I think I´m going to use the silkolene syn 5 which meets all the api requirements, its not that expensive and I can buy it not so far away from here.

By the way I´ll be picking up the 355 next monday God I cant wait!!!

It sounds a bit sissy but its a dream come true. I´ve always wanted a Ferrari since i was 3 years old and i saw one parked in front of my house. I told my mon "look a testarossa" and my mother anwered "No, thats red not pink" Pink in spanish is "rosa". She thought I was telling her that the car was pink

Always wanted a testarossa until I saw the 355 when i was 10. I told myself i would have one and now here I am. Theses cars are irrational. If I only looked at figures I would probably buy a 911 turbo or a gt3. But even though I try to convince myself that having a ferrari is crazy and I should buy a porsche... Man, when I see the ferrari live... everything else is just trash.

Probably, a more appropriate term for irrational woul be Passion. Boy, you had a "terrible" childhood ! (just kidding) I don't remember a thing back when I was three (dumb dumb). When I was ten, I believe I was too busy with other things (my family never owned a car). So I see, growing up in Spain is not good for your mental health ? Enjoy and hope to see pics soon. w/ smiles Jimmy
