Hello All Ferraristi, Boxer wrote that from now on all new members' introductions should be done in a new thread. I hope I am doing it right. I am pleased and happy to introduce myself to this forum which I have found very friendly and welcoming. I am very impressed by the members' high level of technical, historical and statistical knowledge of Ferrari cars and your genuine passion and joy about both ownership and driving as well as generosity of sharing your experiences. I clearly realise I have a great deal to learn from your interesting chats which I very much look forward to as well as your enjoyable anecdotes from your Ferrari lives. Please visit my member profile and my photo albums to get a broader introduction of my normal-self and what I'm usually up to. I have added texts to each photograph to give you a fuller picture. Thank you and my very best regards to you all, il Capolino Last edited by il Capolino; 12-20-2009 at 11:46 AM. |

Welcome! Already saw some of your contributions fly by, good stuff. Have fun! Irvin A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse of course. That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mister F. |

Long stories but somehow my "collection" seems to find me, not the other way around. Exception to that is my CanAm car...I chased rumor of that car for 7 yrs....found half of it in Alaska and half in Colorado when we were still living in MN. Another proverbial Colorado Barn Find that I found and is now underway is a Lotus 19 USRRC car that Jimmy Clark drove in the 64 Canadian GP. None of that stuff has anything to do with Ferrari's but for those who enjoy barn stories as I do....FUN STUFF and the stories read like B S Levy book. My 348 IMSA car was one that was quietly being built by the Ferrari Factory and Hollywood Sports Cars as an effort to slip Didier Theys into the IMSA Super Car series as a ringer. His 333 came in early and it only saw 2 event's where it was used in anger so it remains quite virgin never having a chance to get bent up. Incredible engineering and fabrication of a level I have not seen in some time. One cold winter day I have to sit down and put the history and stories to print, they are filled with wild tales involving all the big names of the various era's. Sadly we have now lost a number of owners, driver's and builders of these cars...I guess it is up to me as the current care taker of these cars to save and tell the stories so they too are not lost. I was so very fortunate to find and talk at length with most every person involved in these cars. Chasing and compiling the history of them is as important as the mechanical restoration. Without the personal stories, they are only something beautiful to look at. With the stories they are a part of history.

The only pics I could find with the alps visible are of the old camel. The one where it's covered in snow needed no digging. I just blocked all three differentials and gently locomotived my way out like on a sunday outing. The other pic is from a vineyard where an old marine buddy of mine lives. The alpine ridge in the back ground is Swiss but behind it lies the famous French ski resort of Chamonix. Next alpine ride in the Cavallino I'll make sure to shoot some good motifs to send you. 2006/DSC_0138.JPG 268/DSC_0004.JPG I'm not sure I got it right with the pic transfer. If not, let me know and I'll try again.

Dear Dave, I would say it is almost an obligation for a man like you to write a book about your racing car experiencies. With your collection quality, real life stories from the brave drivers and the gifted race car builders, that would be a highly entertaining book to read. Anybody can write a book about Napoleon but nobody can write a book about Napoleon having actually met him in person and shared his anecdotes over a cup of tea. Your book wouldn't just be a compilation of statistics and academically cronologized history. Your book would be alive and I am already looking forward to a signed copy... Good luck with your Lotus 19 and congratulations for having found it and made it yours! Best regards, il Capolino |
