Default Drogo

So i was with Niels (250LM) in Maastricht this weekend for a classic car event, and we are walking around and suddenly we see something that look like a total 250 GTO ripoff
so naturually the 2 "experts" that we are :-? thought: ooo this is for sure a fake, might be based on a mazda or something
So i'm still wandering about the car, and start digging in my books, and guess what i find, and article about 2 special GTO's
one beeing the Breadvan and the other the one that we saw
In the article i can find that the breadvan is based on a SWB (2819GT)
and for the GTO Drogo i can find a reference to chassis 2735GT, but not what it was before.
Anybody got some more info on it??
and i'm sure that Niels want's to know more of it also

That was pretty cool looking but it didn't have the three cresents on the front that the original GTOs had and what the hell is that on the hood? Some kind of intake. Maybe lwasbrooks(something like that) can help you out.

Also why we didn't think it was real cuz of the 3 air intakes.
It had a logo on the side saing Carrozeria Modena, i messed up the close-up, but it didn't say anything special for the rest

That's a plexyglass hood for the air trumpets
Ferrari has used that on a few racing 250 TR's

s/n 2493 - Ferrari 250 GTE fitted with Drogo body
The body was built in 1964 by "Carrozzeria Sports Cars" in order of a Brazilian for another car. The body then was fitted on this car.

Still a 'fake' GTO, only 'rebodied' GTE. I already thought it might be a real Ferrari, since there where little 'wires' round the car, so you couldn't touch. Now, will that be there if it was a Nissan???

I've seen wires around a Nissan before
beside those Bugatti's where standing completelly clear, and they are WAY more interesting then that fake car

Well,

The body itself was a 'one-off' so quite special. It was sold and lowered by the next owner and put on a GTE. Better than lost forever and even better than another GTO replica based on a GTE. ha:

Niels and DJ Dirk,

The body that is currently on 2493GT was originally placed on a pontoon-fendered 250TR s/n 0716 by Drogo in 1964.

As for 2735GT it is actually a 250SWB that was rebodied by Drogo following a crash in 1962. In the early eighties the car was restored to its original configuration and the body was sold to British Drogo afficionado, Ian Webb, who had it installed on 250GTE 3611GT (with a 275GTB engine!).

By the way, neither 2735GT nor the breadvan, 2819GT, are "special 250 GTOs." They are 250 SWBs. The only special bodied GTO was 3445GT, which was rebodied by Drogo in 1965. In 1976, the car was returned to its original configuration and that Drogo body is now on 250GTE 2433GT.
