If my memory is correct, this car was photographed in Road and Track or Car and Driver in the 1980's. The prancing horse on the rear grill was made of sterling silver. Very neat piece.

Check out the Ferrari page on bottom of my gallery about the Sultan's (of Brunei) collection for some more pictures of this 512TR:

This is the information I've got on the 11 Brunei TR Spiders:

FER TR SPYDER BP8899 EFF109
FER TR SPYDER BP8890 EFF110 - Red/Black
FER TR SPYDER BP8998 EFF111 - Anthracite/Black
FER TR SPYDER BK75 EFF112 - White/Black
FER TR SPYDER DPD EFF113 - Light Green/Light Green

FER TR SPYDER BP8988 EFG086 - Anthracite/Black
FER TR SPYDER DPD EFG087 - Silver/Red
FER TR SPYDER BP8778 EFG088 - Purple/Black
FER TR SPYDER BP8898 EFG089
FER TR SPYDER BN6326 EFG090 - Silver/Black
FER TR SPYDER BN1779 EFG091 - Blue-Green/Black

The first five start with EFF, while the other six start with EFG. FER TR SPYDER BP8890 EFF110 is the only one of those that I think is red + I've got pictures of a red Testarossa Spider. So maybe EFF stands for Testarossa Spider and EFG for 512TR Spider. If this assumption is true, then I can fill in the only blank spot with the blue 512TR that got pictured in Rome during Ferrari's 50th anniversary and in Singapore during Ferrari's 60th Anniversary:

FER TR SPYDER BP8898 EFG089 - Blue/Black - When in Rome, it was wearing the 'DPD' plates) - s/n #97310

There are three TR Spiders pictured in the gallery:

512 TR Spider, spotted in Hong Kong

FER TR SPYDER BP8890 EFF110 - Red/Black
Testarossa Spider, spotted in Singapore during the festivities for the Ferrari 60th Relay. It was wearing Hong Seh stickers, so I think it is owned by Hong Seh (Singapore's Ferrari Dealer).

512TR Spider, spotted in Singapore during the festivities for the Ferrari 60th Relay. It was wearing Hong Seh stickers, so I think it is owned by Hong Seh (Singapore's Ferrari Dealer). It was also photographed in Rome during Ferrari's 50th Anniversary. At that time it was wearing the 'DPD' plates. Serialnumber of this car is #97310.

I didnt build it but I imagine it was around $400k, it was also a twin turbo back then w Ostrich interior. I was told it once belonged to Mike Tyson.

I got it at less than 50% of that

I had to ditch the turbos and replaced the ostrich w alcantara but I kept the 512M wheels w gold plated rims , gives it that special ghetto fabulous touch

Your wheels aren't bad looking, not way over the top. Welcome to FL.

William, I've seen pictures of your F512M convertible before, glad to have you here to share your experiences with it!

I wouldn't do that to a car, and I don't think I'd even buy it "ready" like you did, but I'm glad to see someone is braver then me, it looks fabulous!

There was a yellow cut TR at the rally in Spain a few months ago. It is too bad the factory never officially made a spider version of the TR as the lines quite suit an open top version.

Default Straman conversions

I find all the Richard Straman conversions to be fascinating. I had done some research on him over the years and he converted many cars. The Ferrari's are the most special. This is the list I have so far showing the different Ferrari's he converted:

Ferrari Daytona,
Ferrari 275GTS/4,
Ferrari 400i/412,
Ferrari 512BB Targa,
Ferrari Testarossa,
Ferrari 456,
Ferrari 550 Maranello

Do you know of any more? Do any of you know how many he built of each??

For those of you on Facebook, there is a "Fans of R. Straman built Coach convertibles" group that you can join. http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=56345869254

It is surprising that the factory never offerd the spider.

That looks dynamite!

The yellow one is a killer!

It reminds me of the 456 Spider that Sheehan was seliing about 2-3 years ago.

I do remember the Sheehan 456 Spider. It looked great and I beleive the conversion cost was somewhere north of $60k.

It is too bad Ferrari never produced a 456 Spider. The base lines suited a spider very nicely and it would have fit with the GT characteristics of the car.

Have you seen the '88 conv on ebay right now? Who do you think built it? The owner did not know.

I would call Mike Sheehan. He might have done it and not, will likely know who did. www.ferraris-online.com
