Oh how fun these can be. Lets start talking about all the One off Ferraris. If you know the S/N please include it. I was looking through some stuff and saw a very ugly one off that was like a station wagon with windows for the roof on the back and wood in the back for the floor. What the hell was this? PS: To be a "one off" does it mean ONLY ONE ever built or does it mean 1-3 etc? |

What do you mean with one-offs? The "prototypes", or do you mean the let's say 365 GTB/4 that is converted into a shooting break by panther, probably the car you mentioned above. In the last case, there were a lot of special bodies in the old days, almost every one was special built, were those one offs to? Where do you draw that line? I'm curious, because I am struggling for that question for a long time myself.

The dealer I just bought my car from has this: http://www.classicdriver.net/uk/find...&dealerid=1320 He understands more than 1 were converted, although he wasn't sure how many. Unfortunately, and this is only my personal opinion, in the flesh it's bloody hideous!! Don't know the SN - but will try to find out. Bazil |

Bob, I'm curious about that myself. I think there are some great one offs. I'm guessing to be an official one off it had to be from the factory? Meaning the factory made it and it was not altered by someone else later. |

Maybe, but what about the later conversions? those are one offs too, although they are not recognized by the factory. Now you are busy with models and things. What I always found very interesting are the Ferrari-related cars. Like Lancia Thema 8.32, Stratos, ASA, Fiat Dino. Maybe an idea to get more info about more of those cars? |

"one off production, is generally when only one specialist item is required and it would be built by a craftsman.. An example of this could be a individually made piece of jewellery where there would only be one in the world. This type of production as you can well imagine is very labour intensive and therefore VERY expensive." More than one would be a "batch". Ferrari's production would be termed as batch production rather than mass production. This allows Ferrari a little more flexibility to make changes in the middle of a production run. It would be very difficult for Ford or Chrysler to make changes in the middle of a production run due to having to re-tool the line. So what we are talking about here, a one-off would be a Ferrari of which only one example was ever built. I think it would include concept cars. Capt. Pete, Great info, thanks! Now is it "one off", "one-off" or "oneoff"? Anyone know? Does it matter? So what is everyone's favorite one off? |

Okay, I don't think the Mythos was a one off since there are supposedly two around! One-offs: 3Z Panther Daytona Brake Vignale 330 Brake Meera S Rossa Dino Sperimentale Sigma Dino 3-posti Testa d'oro Can't think of more now, but there are a lot more! Niels Doomed for life with the Ferrari virus |

I think you shouls include the special bodies of normal production cars, even when there are 2 or 3 of them. This way these cars get more attention, and after all, if there are 2 of them, 9 out of 10 times they are still different from each other EDIT: The cars I found in one book show what I mean, what are the one-offs here? If you only take the cars with one built, you are missing some great cars. 512S (not the race car version) 512 Modulo 365 P (tri posti, 2 cars built) 330 GT 2+2 station 330 GT Speciale (2 built) 365 GTB/4 NART spyders (more than 1) 365 GTB/4 with hard-top and longer tail. |

What about the Mythos? I know some believe 1 was made, and one replica based on a Testarossa, But some weeks ago I saw pics of a Blue Mythos, and it was from the sultan of Brunei. What is the story behind that?

Regarding the Mythos, I believe there's one real car and one mock-up. I also know that the Sultan of Brunei has several (6?) Mythoses made by Pininfarina, all RHD and probably with automatic gearboxes. Some info can be found on my site, www.red-headed.com (check Articles, scroll down).
