Hi, I'm looking to get a 458. There are several 2010 models with low miles available for sale. I wanted to see if there are any issues with the 2010s since it was a first year run. Also, are there any differences from the 2010 vs 2011? Thanks in advance, Adam |

Adam- Welcome to Ferrari Life. The biggest problem with the 2010s was the adhesive that caught on fire, and that was replaced during a recall/campaign. I would not worry about buying a 2010 and maybe someone else knows whether there were any software or hardware changes made for 2011. Good news is the ECUs in the 458 (and California and FF) can be updated more easily than earlier Ferraris.

The new 458s have had a ecu update but the update can be performed for free on an older one at a Ferrari dealer. Good luck finding one, the 458 is by far my favorite modern Ferrari.

Here are the bulletin details from Ferrari SpA for the 458 MY2012: "New control software for the magnetorheological dampers was developed to improve body control and boost tyre performance for an even sportier feel. The new control software is active in all of the manettino settings with specific calibrations. The F1 dual-clutch transmission control software has been evolved and now delivers more emphatic gear-shifts when the manettino is in the RACE, CT OFF and ESC OFF settings. The new software features a strategy that utilises the energy built up during gearshifts by the twin clutches to provide positive acceleration when the next gear engages. The extra acceleration is felt only on up-shifts and is not available in the AUTO mode. The F1-Trac has also been recalibrated to guarantee that the 458 Italia is faster coming out of corners when the manettino is in RACE. In the power-on phase coming out of bends, the new calibration ensures more accurate control of the torque being delivered to the rear wheels. The aim in this instance is to achieve and maintain the maximum performance possible from the tyres in the available grip conditions. Smoother, more fluid torque delivery on the very limit of road-holding guarantees that the car is faster coming out of bends. The new content is available on all 458 Italia Coupés built from 5th September 2011. From January 2012 a full retrofit package for these features will be available for 458 Italias built before september 2011." The main differences I've heard of between the 2010 - 2011 versions are software related. E.g. : On the MY2011, when the right screen is used for Navigation or other functions, the left screen will display the round speedometer . Now you can also select which screen you want the Speedomeeter to be displayed on. It seems that this software upgrade cannot be applied to the MY2010 as said by several dealers but need to be confirmed. The later MY2011 has an upgraded gearbox software to give it more sportier feel in race mode (harder kick when shifting). I don't know if this upgrade can be applied on MY2010. |

Thanks everyone for the quality info. I'm located in the US. After talking with my local dealer. I've decided to order a 2012. This will allow me to get the options I want and they are saying i'll be able to get it by july/august. Thanks again - can't wait. |
