| The year was 1964, and Ferrari's limited production 250GTO was unquestionably atop the ultra-high performance car heap; after all, it had won its class in the Sebring 12 Hour race in the hands of Phil Hill and Olivier Gendebien. A gentleman by the name of David E. Davis, Jr. was a fresh new face at the helm of Car and Driver, a small enthusiast magazine that was struggling to stay afloat. That year, Pontiac launched a model named the GTO, flagrantly pilfering the moniker from the iconic Ferrari, and then had the nerve to suggest to David that it could out-perform its Ferrari namesake. David took the bait, ordained that it would be the cover story of Car and Driver's March issue, and proclaimed that, when the dust had settled, the Pontiac had won. So on May 1st and 2nd The Williamsburg Winery, in Williamsburg, VA, will host an event that finally settles the score 46 years later, at Ferraris on the Vine: GTO vs. GTO. We’re still working on the details and registration but I’d like to direct you to www.ferrarisonthevine.com. |

The story continues...we'll have Pontiac and Ferrari GTOs here on Saturday for a rematch of sorts. Should be exciting! Also, along with David E. Davis, racing icon Dan Gurney and Pontiac ad man Jim Wangers will be speaking at the dinner Saturday night.
