Default FLED 3 - Early Planning

Initial thoughts for FLED 3 are:

dates - late April 2010

route options:

Highlands in Scotland
Mosel & Rhine Valley's plus the Black Forest in Germany
Reims to Maranello and back (would need a full week)

Preferences?

Boxer,
Any and all sound good. Around that time of year, the times that would suit us would be some time covering the fortnight between Saturday 27th March - Sunday 11th April.

Anything outside that window is difficult (certainly I could only attend solo).

As regards destination - well Maranello would be fantastic, but probably most expenses and time consuming. Still if it were possible it would be great.

Another suggestion - which would probably be even more difficult to organise - what about us all driving to Monte Carlo for the Monaco GP (May 13th - 16th)??

Very keen on Maranello. Last time went there was as a penniless national serviceman in 1991. They would not let me in (even though I told them my father had a 365 GT 2+2 and that I would one day own a Ferrari).

Roll on FLED 3!

Thank you Boxer.

If fled 3 sould/will be that early in the year, I may suggest to plan a little more towards the south of Europe (i.e. south France and Spain, the Dalmatian coast, italy in general ?!) Just my 2 cents.

Boxer and others,

Having marveled at reports on episodes 2 and 2.5, I would love to try and join FLED 3.

As to routing, all suggestions so far sound amazing, yet may I voice a particular interest in the Mosel & Rhine Valley/Black Forest option?

Cheers,
Irvin

If we do a Maranello loop, might head south via the Rhine and Black Forrest and then come back up through France.

Great idea, why choose if one can do both (and then some)?!

I found out this weekend I'm on the list to do the Mille Miglia Tribute, which will have priority for me (sorry guys but it's a very special event!). It would include factory visit May 4th, and then scruteneering and the event is from May 5 - 9th. Entry is not certain yet but looks very likely and I'll be taking my 330GTC.

It will be difficult for me to take a couple of weeks off, so I don't think it will be possible for me to visit the Monaco GP the week after. However, if you guys are keen: the Mille Miglia is a FANTASTIC event and you can join the event unofficially for stints of a couple of kilometres. We did this last year - and it was the most fantastic thing I've ever done in my Ferrari! We drove with the old cars out of Brescia and also the Futa and Raticosa passes and you feel like you're Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France with crowd cheering you on - it is awesome!

So - perhaps we could organise FLED 3 to visit the Mille Miglia and I'll join you maybe for a day or two before or after?

Just a thought. It would be wonderful to combine the events - too bad that coming year there won't be an RM Auction, though.

The Dalmatian coast is southern Croatia, that seems a long detour...

I agree with Boxer. Germany sounds good and incorporating a loop to Maranello would be the cherry on the cake.
Time of year isn't a big issue for me although I have applied for the Mille Miglia fully expecting to get knocked back but knowing that when eventually when all the historics and supercars have done it then they will have to allow the other lesser mortals to have a go. On that basis count me out of FLED 27. In the meantime I am in.

After watching TopGear last night, I would suggest that in addition to Maranello, we go to:

Romania

(for the best road in the world)

Having spent time in Romania a few years ago, I would strongly recommend against it. That one reoad may be great, but all the others are pretty bad.

Per the comments on dates, perhaps the 2nd week of May would be better.
