| Texas highway would be the first to allow 85 mph speed limit | The Lookout - Yahoo! News Texas has proposed a new speed limit for one of its highways allowing motorist up to 85 MPH making it the second highest posted speed limit in the world [so says the article, I didn't write it]. Ya' just know one can tack 10 onto that upper limit ... darn lucky TX drivers. Not only the stand your ground law now one can bullet one self into old time 1960's fun. Rik, as the article said, some areas of West Texas have had 80 for years, so 85 shouldn't be unthinkable (except to insurers ). Here's a pic I snapped on our way out to the Grand Canyon in 2010 (in the Suburban, not the Ferrari, unfortunately!)

That's nice. But MPG will suffer. |

Mark- Would not make much difference in the 575M. Horrible at all speeds.

Problem is everyone drives 5-10 over. Now the speed avg. / limit is 85-90 there.

Me, too. Usually seven over when the LEOs are out.

100 mph would be perfectly safe in a lot of areas of the US....IF people took driving, and their cars, seriously. but that ain't the case | |

During the 1950s and 1960s there were about nine states that had "reasonable and proper" as the speed limit on the open highway. In early 1968 I did 150 mph on 395,a straight two-lane running south from Reno. The open road should have no limits. |

I was just so happy to see the goofy "65 at night" limits go down. (...and howdy neighbor) |
