Default Jon Shirley collection

What a set of cars this man has. His Ferraris are amazing, but his other cars are great too. Very tasteful collection, fuelled by passion I think.

Jon is a great guy and his interest in these cars runs very deep, so does his knowledge. He takes being their cartaker very seriously.

This is Jon giving my better half a ride in his freshly restored TR.

A very nice man.

Very cool pic, Brian! What a lucky lady your other half is.

I loved reading the interview with Jon (which I only did after posting the link). He seriously races these cars! Just fantastic, the way it should be. Not like Ralph Lauren - Ralph has all the right cars but he never uses them, certainly not in public. To me that is a great shame. Take a leaf out of the truly great collectors, Ralph: Nick Mason, Anthony Bamford, Jon Shirley and some others, those are the guys! They want their cars to be out there, for enthousiasts to see and for them to enjoy.

Jon Shirley is an interesting person. Saw his collection in about 2000 when we were in the Seattle area for one of my projects. He had a garage in Bellevue where most, but not all the cars were. I asked about his lack of mid engined Ferrari racers (LMs, Ps and such) and he said he did not like to them them as much as the earlier front engined ones.

He told the story of having been at one of the European Oldtimer gatherings. There was some sort of luncheon for all the participants and he is looking around for a place to sit. It was so special that Nick Mason asked him to sit at his table. Really amazing when you understand that Jon was the original CEO of Microsoft brought in as the "grey hair" to Gates and Allen. even through most of the 2000s although he was no longer part of the company he reamained on the board and still hage huge MSFT holdings.
