OMG> VW takes last time I read about a Mill $ loss on each build. That is an INSANELY LOW PRICE even with a major.

where's my checkbook -- I'd take that over any recent Ferrari anyday.

It is low - no need for the check payments are only 75k a month.

And that's before you start driving it. Someone once told me its c. $20K for 4 new tires... not sure how true that is mind you.

It is true. And installing them can only be done in 3 or 4 places in the world I believe. The standard Veyron looks a bit "pedestrian" (read: old-manish) for me but I'd love an SS. I'd have about an ice-cube's chance in hell of ever affording one though

Tires after a high speed run must be replaced or 2500 miles at a cost of 30k.

Proper running maintenance stories are crazy - yearly running costs $150k minimum for 5,000 miles.

I think it's actually insulting no matter how much money someone has to spend.

After seeing a Bentley SS which shares a lot of the same DNA - I would rather have the SS and a Pagani

As far as I am aware there is nothing the Bentley shares with the Bugatti. But maybe I missed something?

The Veyron, she's a "butter-face" car.

Default Acceleration!

Personally the Veyron to me is a numbers car, and I certainly wouldn't want to drive one everyday even if I had the money - i prefer more lithe, agile and engaging cars.

However, that acceleration, that mind boggling stomach churning acceleration would be something to experience!

BIKE magazine did a test of one "versus" a BMW S1000RR and writer Simon Hargreaves sat in the Veyron in all his biker gear (sans lid of course), and mashed the throttle. Basically he said it was unbelievable and quite different to an airplane or a sportsbike (and he's ridden plenty).

In the absence of my numbers coming up however, I'll stick to the poor man's Veyron: the Nissan GT-R

agree

GT-R is actually a good looking car, too (to those who are into that cuisine)

I went to a few Veyron events - the same mechanics at the local dealer work on Veyron Ferrari Maser Bentley Lotus Bentley Rolls Royce Aston and a few others.

Anyway after we had a few drinks the mechanics took me over to the shop where a 2.6 million dollar Veyron in all CF blue sat with no front bumper.

The CF bumper did not meet standards so they had to remove it for inspection and refit one on at a cost of around 100k.

Anyway - at that time the mechanics had another one that was a demo that was in repair and fairly well taken apart.

They pointed out lots of items that the Veyron shared but I really wasn't listening as you may imagine - I didn't care at the time given what I was exposed to.

However I remembered the seats only because when I sat in the Veyron a joke was stated - for two million less you sit in the same exact seat as that SS over there.

Given that my guess is there are many many many parts shared beyond the front seats.

Minus 7 radiators, 4 turbos, and a W16 engine all of which will never ever be produced again... I guess there is a lot in common. My desire for the monster is last of a breed ultimate in its class. It is a lifetime achievement to power.

I remember seeing my first Veyron in the metal in Silverstone in 2007. I peered into the engine bay and the first thing that caught my eye was a VW sign on some random part. I thought it was a pity that it was the first thing I noticed....

Imagine if you were stroking a check and seeing that.

Let's face it even a Rolls Royce is built on a ever so slightly modified BMW 7 series frame as are the Maser and Cali frames.

The brakes on my 612 are the same ones that are on a Subaru!!!

Maybe we need a thread on exotics shared parts

Bottom line is every car factory with sister companies is sharing parts and lots of em.

I have a tenant who makes airbags but considered second tier - a certain top tier mfg got behind and they had to bring label markers to the factory. The manager who knows I love stupid shit called me over.

The same airbags were used on most of the cars - regardless of manufacturer.

Actually that engine first appeared in the Bentley Hunaudieres.

VW is planning on using that engine on other production cars - the Bentley version of the Veyron I posted a thread on a few months back had the Bentley / Veyron / VW engine installed.

The Bentley Hunaudières is a concept car built by Bentley for the 1999 Geneva Salon International de l'Auto. It is powered by a Volkswagen 8.0-litre, naturally aspirated, W16 engine that generates 623 brake horsepower (465 kW; 632 PS) of power at 6,000 revolutions per minute and 760 newton metres (560 lb·ft) of torque at 4,000 revolutions per minute in conjunction with a five-speed manual transmission.[1] It is capable of a 350 kilometres per hour (220 mph) top speed.[1]

I agree Doug, the days of pure bespoke supercars from major global manufacturers are over. But Bugatti should at least have the decency to cover up the VW signs that are clearly visable from the outside!

As you said, I'd not be happy if I had shelled out on the Veyron.

Come to think of it my Fiat Ducato motorhome has a Ferrari 360 clock. Or does my 360 have a Fiat Ducato clock?

lol - hysterical!!!

In light of Eric Clapton spending 3 million plus on a 458 - these are good problems to have.
