Default First Ferrari

Ordered a Ferrari 458 in October of 2011, got news that it's in production and will be arriving March-April 2012. Is there any way I can see the production of this car and when exactly it will be arriving? Or what I can expect on delivery? I can't wait to drive it!!!!!!!

Congrats. Welcome. I do not believe you can normally see your car being built. Some have. Talk to your dealer. The 458 is one of the very best choices IMO.

Yess I really liked the 458 also, I got it in Rosso Corsa color with beige interior, I wanted to keep it traditional. I haven't test driven the car either so when I receive it, it will be the first time I have driven a 458. Pretty nervous

Welcome to FLife

I would think you could or at the least ask for a VIP book documenting the build.

It's gotta be killing you - there are a few guys here in the same boat.

Suggest going to the dealer or on e-bay and buying a hat gloves etc

You can arrange to take delivery at the factory.

Welcome to Ferrari Life. Look forward to seeing photos of your new car and hearing your driving impressions. Hard to believe, but the 458 has almost as much torque as the 550's big V12 (398 lb-ft vs 416) and way more hp. Should make her very easy to drive. Plus the dual clutch transmission is very easy to use and even has an excellent automatic mode. Think you will love it.

The wait is killing me really bad, you have no clue, I have been looking at every 458 video possible for the past week, I cant go to the dealership either to look at any 458 because they don't have any in, they sold out all of them. Also, should I have the car delivered to my house or pick it up from the dealership? I am undecided on that

My old neighbor had like issues - he ended up shipping the car air freight and Ferrari / the dealer split the cost 50 / 50 costing him 3500.00

Where are you located?

Other people here know more about the process than me - but I would take delivery at the dealer and get a full rundown of the car plus it will give you a chance to go over any possible defects in the paint or carbon fiber depending on your spec.

champagne612, I live in michigan so I guess waiting for it will be good because the weather is so up and down here

I will probably go to the dealer and pick up the car and get a full run down of the car and inspect it. Thanks for all the help, the car has carbon fiber mostly in the inside, not much on the outside.

That is what I am doing. How would that work for an American? Take delivery in Italy, drive it around for a week, drop it of at the factory again for shipping?

@OP - why don't you rent a 458 at a track? There are various possibilities in the US. Then at least you've driven it. But trust me - you're going to feel the pangs worse at the end of the day.

Don't worry about driving it too much. It's a very easy car to drive. The only real annoying thing I find is the sensitive throttle, which on cobbled streets makes it hard to potter around. But you don't have cobbled streets in the US, so that's OK.

Don't know if Ferrari has that type of program but a few of the other European car manufacturers certainly do.

Would not hurt to ask.

I thought European delivery was only for the V12s, but that may have changed. Never hurts to ask.

I asked the person at the Ferrari dealership when the 458 will be coming in, his response is when it's driving season, do they give you an exact date usually when ordering the car?

They will normally give you an estimated month for delivery.

About 8 more weeks, that's only another 56 sleepless nights for you then
