| I believe they will continue with 12 cylinder engines until they can no longer get them approved.

I long for the days when Ferraris looked like nothing else on the road.... They came close with the 458. The rest... not so much.
Current: 85' GTS QV "I don't sell cars, I sell engines. The cars I throw in for free since something has to hold the engine."

There's a rumour going around that Ferrari will be doing an online unveiling on the 22nd which is this coming Wednesday? The private unveiling is suppose to be taking place today..... **Update** I was told earlier today by a Sales Executive at our local Ferrari agent that the dealer viewing is taking place on Wednesday, but nothing has been said of a public online debut. i was sort of hoping for a more radical departure from the 599 styling wise. i am sure i will love it in the flesh though. ferrari has a pretty good batting average.

212- Did you receive anything through ferrari.com on the car yet or do the rest of us have to wait with bated breath?

Wow, 740hp! Wonder if anyone there today got to sneak a quick pic or two.... Is it confirmed that it will be called the 620 GT? **Update** Just read the same info given by 212, plus that it has a Dry weight of 1525kg (599 GTB 1579kg). Lap time around Fiorano is a 1:23 (599 GTO's time is a 1:24). Just for comparison, the Aventador's 0-200km time is 8.8 seconds. Last edited by Mike430; 02-20-2012 at 12:29 PM.

| Terry, received that short only info from a usually very reliable contact. Have not heard or seen the car personally (sufferring from a cold, still).

About the HP's: 730 or 740, forgot the correct number. The car was described as very beautiful (but as usually that's very subjective)

12 cylinders are dinosaurs - no need and no way to get them compliant. KERS adding 40- 60hp to the 8 cylinder producing 600 hp in the upcoming Scud version of the 458 the weight will soon get most of the attention. The new Scud at 650 hp will probably be faster on the track than the 599 replacement at 730 hp. Street cars from Ferrari are going to act like F1 cars - it's incredible! |

However the weight question has never really suceeded in the last years. They are generally way above their "targets". As carbon tubs seems to be a "no" for mass production cars, one way (besides shortening) would be to go back to Turbo / 6 cylinder construction. This would enable a much shorter and lighter block. It will be interesting if they are ever able to create that "mille chilli" philosophy for a mass production car again. Even the new impressiv 599 successor will weight 1575 kg dry. with those fabulouse acceleration specs of 0-200km's in 8.5 one wonders how that rocket would do with "mille chilli" !!

The future F1 formula of turbo six cylinders will give Ferrari the excuse they need if they want to do a V6 again. At least we know we have at least 8 more years of V12s with the new one being introduced. The announced hp was 740. Time to buy stock in Michelin. Those rear tires will not last long.
