Default Sergio Scaglietti - RIP

Sorry to pass this along but Marcel advises that Modenese coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti died last night, at his home in Modena.

Another legend has passed.

RIP

Sgr. Scaglietti died today in Modena. A genius; rarely drew anything. Responsible for the pontoon-fendered TR and the 250GTO.

What a terrible tragedy, the automotive world has lost a legend.

RIP Sergio Scaglietti

Another picture from Reading in 2000, and the signature Bryan mentioned.

His was a rare talent.

RIP Mr Scaglietti. Very few in the car industry (or any industry) that can be instantly recognized by their last name.

I wonder if he had any input on the 612?

Hopes so since it bares his last name.

Sad news ...

Lil note I found

The 612 Scaglietti was the very first all-aluminium Ferrari 12-cylinder. It's no surprise therefore, that it is named in honour of Sergio Scaglietti, the Modenese coachbuilder who worked wîth Enzo Ferrari in the early years of his great adventure, masterfully sculpting some of the most famous track and road-going Ferraris ever from that very metal (which is just a third of the specific weight of steel). Both the 612 Scaglietti's chassis and bodywork are aluminium.

Yes, I believe he designed it but I could be wrong.

I actually always thought it was strange that SpA named the 612 after Scaglietti when it so clearly is an homage to the 375MM "Bergman Coupe" s/n 0456AM - a Pinin Farina special.

375 MM Speciale Coupe 0456AM

Scaglietti also did a one-off 375MM, 0402AM - the "Rosselini coupe" - which I think I prefer.

Very few of the pioneers left. And so few who can put pen to paper and have as a result a complete finished design without a commitee or a computer.

Very sad.

Very cool that he signed the car.

Is that Phil B. with his back to the camera?

No, that was the translator for Scaglietti and Gozzi that day; Franco Gozzi is at the far left of that pic, though. Enzo's chief lieutenant for decades.

RIP. A definite legend lost, but a long and remarkable life to celebrate.
