The reason I like the 458 so much is that you can see echoes of the 308/328 design - just beautiful. . Current: 360 Modena Future: ? ----------------------------- 'Some people dream of success... while others wake up and work hard at it.' | |

Hey Brett, your car looks awesome. I hadn't seen one in white. Looks sharp. I've got a tip for you on the battery charger. What I did on my 308 was permanently connect the leads to the battery and run the wires to a marine-grade plug I zip-tied to the front grill. So when I'm done with the car I just bend down and plug the battery maintainer in without having to open up the lid and remove the spare tire or anything.

As far as your question to Ed on maintenance issues, I've had my '79 308 for 10 years and although I don't put a lot of miles on it I've spent way less in maintenance and repairs then on my '06 Chevy truck. And the 328 is the most bullet-proof of the 3x8 series. I wouldn't expect you to have any serious reliability issues. The only issue I'm aware of with the 328 is that they seem to go through batteries for some reason. All the 3x8 series seems to for some reason. Doesn't matter whether it is parked in a climate controlled garage with a battery maintainer or driven everyday. The battery only lasts about 2-3 years. I had a '96 Dodge Ram truck for 10 years and sold it with the same battery that was in it when I bought it. I've changed out the Ferrari battery 3 times in the same period. A buddy 328 owner had the same complaint. But, a new battery is cheap and easy to deal with if you are aware of it. And it seems like you are aware of it since you've already got yours plugged in. i have an 89 red/tan. had it about 5 years. has 37k bought it with 25k. I consider it to be a very tight example. Have driven a bunch of 308/328. When i first bought it i went through it and replaced a lot of consumables. like clutch, brakes, tires, ect. I installed a hyperflow cat and tubi exhaust. I have had a few minor problems like air conditioning and a rotted coolant reservoir. but nothing big. pretty sure i haven't spent a dime on it past fluids in about three years. it is due for a major (7 years) and some deferred maint. but not bad for 5 years of hard driving. I do drive it hard and get it out at least once a week. just got back from dropping my son off. all in all a great car that has been a joy and a bargain to own. a keeper. Quote:

agreed 100% Brett(Lucca), I've dreamed about a 3x8 since I was 10 back in 1987 and finally got my 328 beginning of this year, when I drive somewhere and I see the car where I parked, I just wanna take photo's from different angles...its absolutely stunning from any angle and it will be for many years to come, reliability on 3x8 is awesome - when I got the car the battery was 5 and half years old and I needed to charge it if the car was not used in 2 days so I just replaced it and also made me a socket that I mounted next to the isolator (battery on / off switch) much easier to test / charge / check the battery or if you want to feed a 12V circuit or AC inverter to feed a 110V Light etc etc,,anycase if you check your battery often and check water levels every 6 months and use the car on a weekly basis - not short but a longer drives (give the battery a good charge from alternator while driving ) it should last longer than 3 years, in my opinion any long standing car is a battery killer...
