Default PPI Performed by ECS

Josh recently performed a PPI for me on the 550 that I bought from Ferrari of Washington, and I was very satisfied with his knowledge of the car, his work and the thoroughness of his inspection.

The PPI uncovered a number of issues that gave me enough material to use in negotiations with the dealer that I was able to get the car on my terms.

Not only did he perform a superb job on the PPI, but he picked me up at the airport when I flew in to close the deal on the car, and he spent a good part of the next day with me discussing what I wanted to do with the car.

I was sufficiently impressed with his skills that I left the car with him to perform a number of needed maintenance items and enhancements.

A job well done Josh; keep up the good work!

High mileage, low compression, and missing on a few cylinders.....just like my cars.

Yeah, it was a quickie in & outie (story of my life actually!) Came in late on Monday, we sealed the deal, picked up the car and brought it over to Josh's shop, then I left Tuesday afternoon. But I'll be back in early December when Josh has finished the car. Maybe we can rendezvous then?

One of the real strengths of the PPI, and Josh is like a Ferrari bloodhound.

Yeah, but if you lived local, he'd fill the car with gas and wash and wax it afterwards !!

Did you buy the red 550? I saw it there last week. Looked like a nice car. Congrats!

Thanks; yes, it was the '99 550. They also had a red 2001 550 Barcheta there, but it was a bit too rich for my blood & budget.... The '99 showed well, but had a few issues under the pretty face. Two cylinders are down on compression from the others, (160ish vs 195-200+ for the rest), the clutch is near the end of its service life, and the A/C may not hold a charge. I'm going to watch the compression & leakdown numbers closely over the course of my ownership, and will start building up an escrow fund for the eventual bottom end overhaul or a shortblock. The clutch will get changed while it's with Josh this time, unless the A/C problem proves to be a leaky evaporator core, in which case we'll do that instead, and I'll suffer the clutch for a bit longer. (In Houston, TX the lack of A/C tends to trump most other problems ) The clutch still engages fine and is not slipping, but its engagement is about 3/4 of the way up the pedal travel, and Josh verified the wear indicators on the friction material were at their limit.

He certainly seems to have a depth of experience with these cars that belies his age!

Hehe, I'll keep that in mind for when I pick the car up in December and my wallet is quite a bit lighter......

Thanks for the kind words Gents. I do my very best to deliver when someone requests and trusts my judgement.

I'm glad I've been able to help a couple of you get into the car you've longed after on terms that were as reasonable as possible.

And don't worry John, I'll make sure she's shined up reaaal good so you don't see the total on the invoice!
