Default Italian Police Get Lamborghini Patrol Car

Italian police show off their new Lamborghini patrol car during celebrations in Rome, May 14, 2004 to mark the force's 152nd anniversary. If you are thinking about speeding on Italian highways this year, think twice. You might find yourself being chased down by a Lamborghini sports car. Italian police took possession on Friday of a sleek, 500 horsepower, two-seater Lamborghini Gallardo, which can hit a top speed of 300 kmh (185 mph). REUTERS/Alessandro Bianchi

That's a great publicity stunt for the police! If they would do that here I would join the cops immediatly :P

But serious, what's the use of a lambo for the police (except for having a fun time)? :-?

There are an awful lot of cars one the road these days capable of incredible speed - they need to at least be able to compete.

In the UK some of the police forces are using sportsbikes instead of the traditional BMW/Honda Pan European - for exactly the same reason.

We had porsche 911's for that (and at least one corvette), but they're all gone now, because there came all kinds of other techniques. Like a chopper with all kinds of high-tech equipment, isn;t that way better?

We still have fast cars btw, but not 200.000 euro cars.

What if the lambo is in the south and there is a ferrari speeding in the north?

And if it was such a very rich country then I could understand it a bit, but there are a lot of poor parts in Italy.
So, that's why I don't get it.

We have Camaro and Firebird patrol cars. I can't recall if they still have Mustangs, but it's possible.

That is awesome.

Look deep in the archives on here. At one time many years ago the police had a Ferrari.

Wow, that's pretty cool.

Yeah, Andrew, i remember reading aobut that. Wasn't it like a 250 GT/L? I can't quite remember, but I remember that the current owner had it unrestored and it looked pretty good.

The Baby Blue color looks a little odd to me, but it is still cool to see a Lambo cop car. :green:
If I recall correctly, somewhere in California there is a department which has a Countach they siezed from a drug dealer and they use it for the D.A.R.E. program (Drug Abuse and Resistance Education).
Our State Troopers (North Carolina) have several Camaro's right now. In fact, this exact one caught me doing 105 in a 65 zone

I also found this pic of a Corvette cop car...pretty sweet!

Kansas isn't cool enough to have a Corvette cop car. Not to mention a Lamborghini. :P

I´ve searched for some cool police cars and here they are

Hehe, it´s become a bit larger then I first wanted to do :P

This DARE unit seems to have a lot of cool cars. I´ve read on some websites that DARE is a programme against drugs (If I understand it correctley), but why do they need those ccars then?

You can't stop a car with a helicopter - you may be able to follow it pretty effectively but that's about it. You have to have someone on the ground at some point.

DARE is a program for children and cool cars will attract the children to the concepts taught by DARE because they view them as 'cool'. So if the concept of drugs are bad is a cool concept, then the program wins and the cool cars were worth the cost. I was in DARE and, yes, I am drug free. 8)

Also I think some of the DARE cars are confiscated cars from drug-lords and other scum 8)
