Default Happy Christmas thread

Well gents,
It's December 1st. The Christmas lights went on in our village last night. The kids are excited and so are their parents.

My favourite Christmas party (our closest friends) is this Saturday night and I'm looking forward to it. It's always a great night out and the perfect way to kick off the silly season. This year round were all piling into a stretch Hummer to take us to Belfast for a night on the tiles(keeping it classy ).

In a long tradition, almost every Irish radio station will play this song today to kick off the festive season. Personally I think it is the best Christmas song ever written. What's your favourite?

Happy Christmas!

Barry- Merry Christmas from across the pond. Our Christmas season starts after Thanksgiving, which is the last Thursday in November.

Love that song and have never actually heard it before that I remember, even after living six years in the UK. But then I am musically illiterate. My favorite would be White Christmas by Bing Crosby.

I'm shocked Terry. Well now you have. It's a great song at about 2 a.m. in a residents bar with lots of friends, a smouldering fire and the "I swear this is my last one" night-cap in hand. Only then does Fairytale in New York do its true justice...

I remember some great Christmas gatherings at our pub in Rede, Suffolk in the early 80s and early 90s. Great feeling of Gemütlichkeit.

Two peoples separated by a common language, and music it would seem.

Merry Christmas to all

My Mom would play this and sing it ... eventually ...

"Let It Snow" -by DEAN MARTIN (Best Christmas Songs/Carols/Choir/Movies/Music Hits) - YouTube

... she went straight to this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjcQ_...eature=related

Bouncing between Crosby Martin and Sinatra was a everyday occurrence.

Suffolk is where they made lawn mowers wasn't it?

Alan- The only lawn mowers I saw while I was living in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk were electric and about 9-12" in diameter. Whenever I brought out my US 19" electric, I drew a crowd. Lawns were so small, I did mine and the ones on either side in about 10 minutes.

I had the chance to live a couple of years nearby Dublin (Bray) when I was working at IFSC and loved how Christmas is celebrated there. Everything stops at Christmas eve, even the taxis and trains. Very nice souvenirs

Thanks so much for that song, Barry. I had never heard it before. It's a fantastic tune. I really need to get over to Scottland and Ireland in 2012 (I'm Scottish). Merry Christmas from New Jersey, Bro!

I used to mow the lawn with one of these when I was a kid

Alan- Holy Mackeral, a 14" lawnmower for 500 pounds? Must come with a topless girl to mow the lawn. But I guess it does stripe your lawn, whatever that is. My father had a reel-type mower in the 50s that would actually drag me up our steep, hilly back yard in Oslo, Norway. He sold it to a Norwegian before we came home in 1961, thank goodness. I was always afraid the thing would chew off my leg.
