anybody into it? meant to start a thread on this when i started the whisky thread. My espresso machine is a pasquini (made in italy!). the grinder is a super jolly jr. i brew my coffee in a vacuum pot, link below. One of our local roasters won the specialty coffee associations top roaster award last year, an international competition. Cafe Pronto. whole foods just started carrying their stuff. got my grinder and a bunch of stuff from them and they rebuilt my pasquini. i would be interested in trading beans with others. i don't drink enough to get through a whole bag very quickly and would like to maybe trade half bags with people before they get stale. i have provided some links to my fav coffees. and a pic of one of my cappuccinos from the whiskey thread. Let me know if you are interested, ordering some beans tonight. Graffeo Coffee in San Francisco: Graffeo Coffee Our family has been hard core fans since I was a kid, best coffee I've ever had. I'll be in DC this weekend and will have a pound or so with me. If you're going to be at C&C, I'll bring you some. Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most. |

Nespresso ... I order 100 shots at a time of all the flavors - it's gone within a month. It's simple fast and tastes great - the espresso with no mess of the year. 612 Nuvolari 16M Grigio Ferro |

Wet, heard you were hard-charging Friday night and hit the rack about the time C&C started. So I left your coffee beans with Al. Not sure what ransom you'll have to pay - he mentioned something about him doing his own version of Kopi Luwak?? Enjoy Amigo, Killer Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most. |

just made the perfect cap today. deep cleaning and adjusting the grinder was the deal. cleanliness is next to godliness. man is the grinder important. they always tell you that but you don't want to believe it.

I find I have to clear out my grinder about every other week. And you're right, finding the right grind for your combination of beans and machine is, at the risk of hyperbole, critical. Also, keep your beans in an airtight glass jar and in the freezer. Another one of those truths you don't want to believe and others scoff at. BTW - If Al gets constipated and can't produce your beans, PM me with your address and I'll mail you some. Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most. |

Hi all, anybody ever tried an espresso in Italy ? Comments ? I have been a few times in the US and, honestly, I found the coffee there undrinkable, switching to Tea to have something warm. I tried Starbucks too, better than the rest but still far from the Italian standards. I tried coffee in several countries and probably the best one I had was in Lisbon: Italian coffee machines and Brazilian coffee. Even better than in Italy. ciao Mauro |

the us, being such a large country, has a wide variety of coffee options. Coffee just became a luxury food recently. maybe last 15 years? As with most food and drink related items most are geared towards the largest common denominator and therefore mediocre at best. Starbucks sucks. They have on the one hand created a surge in interest in coffee and ruined it at the same time. It's only in about the last 5 years that i have seen good coffee shops abound around dc, but now there are many. Of course, with the internet, we can get anything. Best thing to do is google "best coffee" in the city you are in and you shouldn't be disappointed. Like all things, people like what they like and you could have a taste for a particular espresso near your house that i thought was awful. I have tried espresso in italy and unfortunately, don't remember it. italy is known for good espresso though. as long as you are not using a mass produced bean like an illy. gotta disagree on both counts. i keep my beans in the airtight bag they come in with the little valve on it. beans should be allowed to "gas" and the one way valve allows them to do that. Freezing is also no good for the beans. It creates ice crystals and at the same time dries out the been. Then, of course, you have to defrost them to grind them. Have you ever frozen anything (except water and ice cream) that tastes as good as fresh? I haven't. When they are about 2-3 months old, i grind em up and my wife takes them to work for the coffee machine. Most beans should not be used before two weeks after roasting or more than two months after. I scoff at the "truth". ![]() i like this guys advice as much as anybody elses: To Freeze or Not to Freeze Coffee Beans | Serious Eats: Drinks Everything you know is wrong Stop chatting and start living the ferrarilife! |

I suppose ice crystals are a factor in humid climates, in SOCAL it's not an issue. Beans will dry out either way, although I'm not sure which way is worse, freezer or room temp. I'll try that experiement again, it's been a while. +1 on the use or lose. Of all the narcissists I know, I love me the most. | |
