Default Lamborghini Diablo - Impressions?

There is a Lambo I quite like a little extra; the Diablo from 2000 and onwards particularly. It has a good wild Lambo presence and it has four wheel drive. Can anybody please give me a hint on how it handles? Wetpet, how do you like yours on a twisty road?

it handles extremely well, but like it's predecessor the countach, it is more of a GT than a sports car. For regular drives that i used to go on with the car guys it was sort of boring. It simply is so competent it can't scare you (excite you) until you are doing silly things. It's much more of a large, comfortable, continent cruiser than say the 430. it is blindingly fast at 0-60 in 3.9 sec and 202 top speed. For me it was much more of an attention getter/ straight line blaster than a nimble sports car like my 328. None of this is a criticism. It is an amazing car and great fun to own and drive. It also looks like a UFO has landed when ever you pull up. You will rarely run into another one as they are quite rare. You will attract attention wherever you go. i remember having my sister in the car and we stopped for gas. people were literally pulling into the station to photograph and videotape the car. I had gotten used to it but it was my sisters first time and she said she felt like a movie star with everyone photographing her. I recommend the roadster. how else can you go 200mph+ for under 100k US?

did i mention the doors go up? when the doors go up, the panties come down.....

did i mention it was named the Diablo? it's freakin named after the devil! figure it out!

Thanks, Ed!

It is a car which I have on my wish list. Good to know it is more for continent blasting. Right now I feel my next car should be a nifty thing for small roads which can also be used in winter. All in due time, I need to reinforce my personal capital base first.

Drove one (early Diablo) once for 20-30 minutes. Hated it. Could not get comfortable, clutch was rock hard, steering felt vague, lots of power but I never felt fully in control or connected to the car. Visibility is very poor.

the 2000 diablo is the 6.0. after vw came on the scene. very different car than the early ones with the double binnacle, ect. My car was very nice and tight, clutch was almost soft and the seats were very comfortable. also pretty good visibility. great car, just not really a corner carver because of the size i think. they came with 345's on the back so a lot of meat on the ground. my car also had about 4k kilometers on it so it was essentialy new and still quite tight. but more like a testarossa than a 328 if you know what i mean.

capo, get a stratos-the old one!

Wouldn't I love one!! - or a Michelotti 308!

Less expensive smaller alternatives for inspiring rallye/winter driving would be:

3x8
Manual 360

Not so cheap alternatives:

CS
Scud
Gallardo
911 Turbo 4

You put top of the line snow tyres on and an adjustable Roberuta type suspension lift - and boy can you have fun!!!

It's a trade off; the cheaper the car the sooner I can own one and vice versa. Right now I make do with my G55 on snow tyres which is fun but at 2,6 tons it can never be really agile on snow. There are only Pirelli Sotto Zero:s available for the G55 on purpose made MB rims (those rims were bl00dy expensive) but I'm not over the moon by the Sotto Zero tyres. The G55 is a great power drifter though.

I have done a bit more research on Diablos. Looks like the build year makes a huge difference. Early ones are only for the brave, late ones much more civilized and better built.

That is absolutely true, you definitely want a 96 VT or newer if possible. The early ones were rockets but just like the early NASA missions lots of potential for failure, especially with those awful brakes.

96 VT came with beefier brake system, then came the Brembo set which were even better, but they are still not fantastic by any means. The VT are also AWD.

I love my DRoadster and as Wetpet mentioned you will be hard pressed to ever see another on the road. You will also get lots of attention so if you are a shy guy this will not be the car for you.

The handling on the later models are quite respectable. I pushed mine quite a bit and she responded excellent to my every command, but the car is a fat daunting monster so getting comfortable in it takes some getting use to. I do not recommend this for a track car, the Diablo is strictly a GT for the highways and city, that being said. Backing up the beast fuggetaboutit, this is where I do recommend the Roadster as you can stick your head up out of the top to look .

I would also recommend in getting one with the lift system and adjustable shock actuators, this will make a huge difference in the ride and handling and you will be so happy every time you need to go up a driveway.

Good point I just completed full rebuild on all 6 of mine just to be on the safe side. Still got kicked in the #%@ with a $6K bill lol.

But peace of mind was worth every penny.

Awesome car, Roberto ! Here in Japan, there is an avid diehard group of Lambo lovers and they seem to luv to "parade in caravan" on weekends showing off their treasures. Some can get real crazy doing all kinds of modifications/upgrades. The funny thing is that one would think the owners are macho guys, but most of the time when you see them in person, they are very gentle and somewhat introverted. The mismatch is interesting to see. w/ smiles Jimmy

I have seen many videos on the cars you speak of, they are all unique and you can tell they love their cars. Definitely have different tastes over there, but they are still Tifosi in my books
