Default Winter - Snow Car

I know it is a few months off, but we may need another car for this winter. Criteria is it needs to be good in snow/slush and hold at least four people. Recommendations?

Can't beat a Suburu based on the Criteria. Great interior room, reliable, cheap and it seems everyone that owns one seems to have some sort of religous experience with them.

I have owned a number of the full size RR and the Cayenne for my dd.

Currently driving the RR Sport as it's been trouble free sporty and what I consider a decent ride. There is plenty of hp with a good sound system and bluetooth that actually works.

Been thinking of trading it for a Bentley GT / h1 SUT or a porsche 911.

The h1 SUT is ridiculous but man would it be fun. The RR is a great car but they are everywhere and that just bugs me. The Bentley's only drawback is I feel it's more of a gents car and I certainly do not qualify.

Curious to see what direction you go - btw the FF isn't a bad choice if you don't mind losing 50 - 75k a year

Funnily enough I've just aquired 2 winter cars, well ones for everday use and the other I haven't decided yet.

A Brabus Merc ML that I hope to have all polished and ready by then end of this week if plans don't go out the window.......

And a Merc G Wagen. Long term project that I've walked past for the past 10 years at the mates house and decided to save it.

Actually Boxer there's an idea, an AMG 55 G Wagen. Very cool I think and wouldn't look out of place in your stable

i'm a fan of the mercedes with 4matic for the bad weather. Never have gotten stuck in the wagon. and we get some pretty deep snow occasionally. Just a fantastic system.

If you are looking at non-SUV: Audi A/S/RS 6 Avant, lots of room, easy to get in and out of, quattro system, and all the comforts of a 6 series Audi.

Thanks. I do like the G Wagen idea. What are they going for these days?

Amazing piece of technology, looks are an acquired taste, and the depreciation would give me hives.

Sir-
I can recommend the Mercedes ML320. I bought one for my wife 2 years ago and only have 2 problems with it.
1. Mercedes didn't want me to work on it. I'm getting around them but cussin'.
2. Traction control is excellent for drivers like my wife- you can't get in trouble. However if I squeeze it I want the back end to move out and darn it that's what I told you!
Those 2 things aside, it's an extremely well built car that I feel very happy/safe to have my wife driving in the worst that mother nature can throw at us. I bought a diesel because I expect it to last long enough that I won't buy another.bill

Boxer you have endless choices but in the winter time it is not the car that is good in snow/slush etc... it's the tires and tires alone.

Sure all wheel or 4 wheel drive Yadda yadda Yadda is great but without great tires you are literally just spinning your tires. Do you get Blizzacks tires over there ? You know I know what I'm talking about being from Canada Here most of us just switch to Blizzzack tires in the winter and it will change your driving from anger to pleasentville in the snow.

300D g's are £10k plus, 350Dt anything up to £30k and the AMG one over £50k Amazing kit in the dearer ones.

As Bill says, don't rule out ML's, my blue one took eveything the -18 and 3 feet of snow could throw at us and what I really like about it is I needed a big car for towing and all the kids bits but not an off roader so it fitted the bill perfectly as its road manners are really good. It will actually nearly power slide out of a wet roundabout if you work it right and scares the devil out of boy racers in their Corsa's and diesel peugout's with the suspension on the ground. The Brabus simply just scares them out of the way
