Default Depressed and bummed out have to wait 10 more months

After trying and trying to figure out how to import my D Roadster (up to Canada) I finally might have to admit defeat as sad as it is . I have one long shot left but I doubt it, so might have to wait another 10 months fcuk!!!!!

I hate the RIV Canadian import out of date, self serving standard of importing vehicles laws err should I say suggestions . Turns out RIV is not even a government run organization they basically are just a private institution to help with import laws. Some have even said that as far as they can tell RIV Canada is owned operated by Canadian Tire?????? so why are these clowns choosing what is or is not admissible?????????? 3 years ago they had set off rules of importing Ferrari, because of this I chose a 348 instead of a 355. 2 years later they changed their minds and all Ferrari's are admissible now WTF.

Now I have the same problem with my 97.5 D Roadster, it can be imported next year (15 yr rule of importation ) but not his year. Yet any Lambo built Sept 1 99 or newer is admissible now?????? besides the obvious few body & interior changes and a few engine mods not much is different. In fact some cars that are allowed in (other manufactures) have way less safety standards than my car????

It once use to be about bumper height, then 5 mph bumpers to 7 mph bumpers (total horse caca) then airbags then dual airbags etc..... well my car has all those so WTF

I called them to find out who came up with this magical production of 99 Sept 1 or newer, they said call Transport Canada, I call them they say Lamborghini Canada I call them they say RIV Canada so who is the F#cking genius ??????????? I have a feeling by next year they will allow all Lambos and I will go ballistic grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Sorry sorry had to vent, thanks for listening

In the end I knew what I was getting into going in the sale, that I might have to wait and I am fine with that, I love my car, it is stored in safe place and I go down once in a while drive it up and down PCH, not many people in the world get a chance to do that I guess.

I can wait the 10 months ( I think ) My point was that this rule is so stupid I have to wait for a car that will be eligible next year but in reality is safer than the cars that are allowed in now ???????? And by there own rules and regulations on Sept 1 2014 wont even matter anymore because all Lambo's will be eligible for import period as all Lambo's now from Sept 1 1999 are allowed in.

I could see newer cars not allowed in because of the dealerships loosing out to U.S cars, especially with our dollar stronger than USD, but that is not even the case here at all.

Go ahead and let your steam released, Nightlife. So sorry to hear the BS. Dealing with red tape and the stupidity involved is just plain frustrations. Jimmy

Look at the mathematical solution i.e. bright side:

The sales tax/registration dollars alone would be very costly I suspect.

Night: What I don't understand, regardless of the nonsense rule[s], is such an import mostly constricting all imports or just from certain makes/countries?

AND

why can't you just drive it across the border for 'awhile' as a US registered car, then back and forth? I know it would possibly be a hassle, but would be nice in some Canadian parts to drive, if not to the GP event.

What I took from your comment was to drive it in CA for awhile until the import.

What I was wondering was why not just drive it with CA plates [if he want to register it in CA, say] into Canada as a 'visiting' scenario for awhile.

I've driven into Canada with US plates, and although I had a CA license [USAA insured into other countries] the RCMP etc. let it happen with no issues.

IF he had dual licenses, which I'm thinking he might, he can present his, say, CA license card and plates and claim he is a 'tourist' and wait it out temporarily that way.

Doubt that Canada would hassle him much. but, it is Canada after all and they are more diligent than our side in places. Example a guy who works near me has for over SIX/6 years driven expired plates from Oregon while he has lived here in California!!! Oregon doesn't care, they think he's gone, CA won't stop him--bigger fish to fry than a foreign hassle....insurance? Bet he has none.

I say drive it here, park it at your place, US plates or not, some cars here and there have NY, FL and nobody says nothing. So drive it when you want anytime.

What are they gonna do, run the US plate? then what????? Nothing.... cops here are too stupid to know better and their systems are crap, I'm surprised they still dont get mixed up in Taxi calls.

And, nobody would be stupid enought to hide out in Canada with a Lambo under Witness Protection Program....with their US plates.....on a Lambo.....lol

I say drive it here and when she is due, drive it up and get it changed.

Sorry to hear Roberto! Look it at it this way you get to go and visit Cali now more often this summer. And if you need a fix you know you can call me anytime. Just a short trip away.

You know what gets me though is seeing all these right hand skylines and such driving around here so beat up and full of rust which I know any competent mechanic would of said no to it's road worthiness and you cant bring in a beautiful Lambo like that! Now that pisses me off.

Hopefully you have time to get down there and enjoy it a few times this summer.

Cheers

Given that NightLife is a well know local celebrity, I doubt the Lambo will go unnoticed. Probably OK to bring it up for a couple of months but then I would ship the car back to California. Check to see what the law is on how long a car can stay in Canada on foreign plates before it has to be either exported or registered locally.

I would need a US mailbox etc.... they get very suspicious over that. I could have asked the former owner to drive it across the border for me but thats asking a lot.
I would have had to ship the car to Seattle, fly him there, have him drive across to Vancouver, fly him home to L.A, for sure they would ask him what happened to the car, he would have to lie for me and say it broke down and getting fixed up here. But still after all this when it came time next year that I can legally plate it I would have to ship the car back across the border then back again.

Only certain makes and models it varies from manufacture to manufacture. Some manufactures all are admitted others only specific models.

Even better, then people will not ask questions or even think there is something wrong. Since they no longer see the 348 anymore....they would just say...."oh look, Roberto got a new car". If you had a Honda Accord before then absolutely...
