This was posted on other forums by Jim Maxwell. I'm hoping someone here might be able to help. It's sad to hear about "car guys" taking advantage of another car guy. It has now been 10 weeks since Amelia. "Anyone personally know one or both of these gentlemen? I did them a favor by loaning them a couple of toolkit items for the Amelia Island Concours in March, 2011 with the specific proviso that they be returned immediately after the show. Sadly, neither fellow has found the time to mail them back to me. I would appreciate any assistance in retrieving my property. I have spoken to both of them and they both have promised to immediately return my tools, but that isn't happening and they now are always "out of the office" or "on the phone" when I call. Thanks for any help." |

Posted on the SAAC Forum today by Jim Maxwell. "The Saga continues.... I received a UPS package containing two items. I loaned Skeeter McKitterick and Bruce Canepa 3items. 1. The first item in the box appears to be the original brake bleeder wrench that I sent to them, stripped of its patina. Looks perhaps briefly bead blasted. I will compare with my photos and will have a friend do metallurgic analysis if I feel that is warranted, but I currently think it is my original wrench. 2. I received a small screwdriver that I loaned to them as a model for the ferrule for the screwdriver. The ferrule design on the small screwdriver is the correct design for the original Cobra screwdriver, so I sent it as a model for the correct design, even though it is too small for the original screwdriver. I sent them a correct sized red painted fluted wooden handled screwdriver and the only copy of the original BDS decal that was found on the original screwdrivers that I have ever parted with, with agreement that the screwdriver and decal would be returned with the replica ferrule that Canepa's machinists were to create. I have all this is in written documentation and confirmation from Skeeter McKitterick, Canepa Parts Manager. So, I called Skeeter today, who "wasn't available", so I left a voice mail saying I got a portion of my items back. So, then I called Bruce and got his assistant and told her the issue and explained that I appreciated the return of some of my items but that I was still missing one and could he please call me. I gave her my cell phone number. I could hear him in the background on the phone during the call. While the screwdriver I loaned is not an exact duplicate of the original, it is very close. I spent at least $3000 developing the decal over many years of research and have never released one to anyone else, and only to Canepa with the proviso that it be returned with the modified screwdriver with his reproduced ferrule in return for the loan of otherwise unobtainable items for the Amelia Island Concours. Someone tried to buy an original brake bleeder wrench from one of the foremost collectors of Cobras in the country around this time, offering $1500 for the item. The collector said he hadn't ever seen an original....... So, I thank Bruce and Skeeter for returning the items that they did, but I still am missing a valuable screwdriver and decal which needs to be returned. I hope that they will find the time to locate and ship the screwdriver I am missing. Skeeter personally told me the screwdriver in question was residing on Bruce Canepa's desk. In that case, it shouldn't be too hard to find......" |
