Default Unlucky Day or Lucky ?

Yesterday was not a good day. I was in my AMG E60 "cruising along" a tollway. Speed limit is 80kph max. I was averaging 140 or so. I do keep my eyes for police but my luck ran out. Before I knew it, a white masked police car was behind me, and you can guess what I was telling myself ...Oh s~~t !!! The way things go here is,...you tag behind the police car as they taxi you to a roadside where it safe to park. They then ask you to go into their police car, sitting in the back seat where they explain the details. Mind you, the police here are very polite and non-abusive. Maybe too polite, so much so that it upsets you. As I got out of my car to sit in the back passenger seat of the police car, I was getting myself ready for the worst. They clocked me at 128kph. That is 48 over the limit. This means license suspension for at least 6 months plus fines like 1000 USD or so. We chatted a bit, and the older officer (there's always two), and he asked me why you were speeding so much. I knew it would not help, but I told the truth and said that I had to go to my office in a hurry to see my patient who was in pain, ie. emergency (of course I exaggerated a bit ...).
Anyway, long story short, the officer sublimely understood my predicament and suggested that he would make the charge to a much more less serious one, something like changing lanes in careless manner, a minor offense. The fine was minimum too, which was 6,000 JPyen (about USD 70).
I don't know why or how things turned out the way it did. So, that is what I meant by unlucky or lucky day, back to back ...

As a sidenote, my E60 flies like a silk and it seems that I get speeding tickets in this car the most. (Not that I get tickets all the time, very, very seldom). You just do not feel how fast you are going. That is the problem with this E60. w/ smiles Jimmy

So, the verdict is lucky ?

The Porsche emblem is my subtle hint that E500 (W124 model) the base model for E60 was a collaborative effort between MB and Porsche for several years in early '90s, meaning this model line was very unique and special.

A good AMG is a friend indeed! It certainly seems so in your case Jimmy.

Even the MB technicians where I live claim the AMG models are a world apart from the standard models in reliability. It certainly has been so in my case.

Stay safe with your unsuspended licence.

Jimmy,
There's no debate on this one in my mind. That's a lucky day indeed.

Lovely AMG by the way....

Maybe you are correct, Mario. The year model is 1994 model 124, base model is E500 which AMG transformed to E60. w/ smiles Jimmy

Thanx, Capo. I am still alive and hanging in there.

As for the AMG, I believe 1994 AMG was still independent of MB. w/ smiles Jimmy

The last time I got speeding ticket was few years back in this E60 also. I was stopped and clocked at 76kph at a 50kph msx road by a police bike. I did not even realize that I was "speeding". Complained but to no avail. I was not so lucky then. Fortunalely, it was only a fine and points. w/ smiles Jimmy

I'd say you got real lucky on that one Jimmy! Doesn't it feel great when you get a break like that. Happened to me once and I didn't speed for over a month felt guilty if I did. lol

Cheers

Very lucky!

The cop could easily have been the other way but chose not to be.

It is easy to be cynical these days but every so often we are reminded in the simplest of ways that there are decent people in the World. Likewise you get what you give and he probably saw that you were a respectable person on his way to help someone and so he reciprocated.

Incidentally the E60 is LHD? He didn't think you were a Yakuza did he??

Nice escape Jimmy. And lovely car. You don't see that type of Merc often anymore, especially in that condition. And the AMG version is very rare, I think.

Well boys, as for Yakuzas, modern Yakuzas are pretty respectable dressed in suits and they seem to like Lexus more than MB.
And thanx Onno. My E560 has been with me since 1996 and has served me well as family car (seats four) and she is aging well. Few more pics, if I may. Good luck in your upcoming MM 2011.

Your E class is in fantastic condition Jimmy!

124 Series have bulletproof build quality, good ones are highly sought after in the UK and from what I understand also in a number of developing countries - as the theft of 124 series in the UK is also quite buoyant! A friend had his stolen from his driveway in the middle of the night. He was absolutely heartbroken as he had owned the car since new (1995 model) and it was in mint condition.
