Default Finding the name "Ferrari" on a Dino

The name "Ferrari" is fairly scarce on a Dino. I found one today on the air cleaner cover.

Prancing Horse is right on the Chassis Number plate.

Fiat cast the block, everything else was Ferrari. For that matter in the dark days of the late 60s and early 70s before Dino 246 GT and Daytona production really got going for the US, Ferrari assembled the Fiat Dinos for Fiat, especially the 2.4 liter versions.

The one in the Door jamb was only on US Dinos, not on all others - can you think of any more locations where the name Ferrari can be found?
Tough one, eh?

If you bought one in the UK, Maranello Concessionaires routinely put a prancing horse, and often Ferrari script, on the back of the car.

Was Maranello Concessionaires as bad then as they are now?

Boxer- No, they were very good when Ronnie Hoare owned them and I dealt with them in the early 80s when I had my 308 GTS. Maranello eventually sold out to Penske, although much of their parts inventory was sold to other companies, including FerrParts. I have purchased parts from FerrParts that still had Maranello Concessionaires on the packaging.

Sorry to hear they have gone so far downhill because they are still considered a repository for older Ferrari parts. Which makes you wonder why they sold all those parts.

In the good old days, they had a parts truck that made a weekly trip to Maranello, so about the longest you had to wait for a part, if Concessionaires did not have it, was about a week. I ordered all kinds of parts and tech data from them and usually had it in a flash. Have not lived in the UK since 1991, but in the 80s and 90s, the UK had the best mail service in the world. One day from anywhere in the UK to your door, with multiple deliveries (at least 2) per day.

It really is sad becasue they had such a great reputation.

Did you know Tony Willis when you were here?

Boxer- No, that name does not strike a bell. I did not perticipate in Ferrari activities then, even though I owned one. Flying fighters was a really full time job and the 308 GTS went from Bury St Edmunds to RAF Lakenheath and back for nearly three years before I left the UK.

Tony was the head of sales at Maranello for a few decades. Apparently is was a great job back then. His company car was a 250 SWB.

He's still around, looking after the Maranello Concessionaires archives. He sent me documentation on my 365BB, very nice to have.

Speaking of Ferrparts, does anyone know their current situation? I have heard of changes, again, afoot. Our new sponsor is not far from them.

There is a Chassis number plate on the rear firewall that is back to back with the rear trunk and I looke dtoday and the name Ferrari is not on that!

Perhaps the air cleaner cover is the ONLY place on a Euro Dino that has the word "Ferrari" on it!

True, but there is the horse "with no name" (I'm sorry that is very bad)
