Default 458 Italia

Here's my spec, as it currently stands, for my April 2012 458 Italia.

Two-tone: Nero Daytona with a red metallic roof. What red is still up in the air, it will be a metallic mid-tone red, current favourite is Rosso Rubinho Mecalizzata.

The look I am going for is racy but classy. So racing seats with 4 point harnesses. The interior will be two-tone as well, black leather with bordeaux alcantara. The alcantara is much less dark than on the pictures, and it should brighten-up the cabin. To get a bit more frivolity, I am using bright-red stitching. The horsies on the headrests should look great in bright red.

I'm going to opt for quite a bit of carbon fibre as I don't like the aluminium in the cabin. This means the centre console, dash, paddles, sill plates, and steering wheel will be CF. The only CF outside the cabin will be the engine manifold, I saw this on the 458 Challenge and it looks fabulous. Expensive, though!

There are a couple of more options but none that affect the general outcome. Personally, I love the fact that each car is so customisable these days. The likelihood of any other 458 being the same as mine is very small indeed....

I'm very excited about this - I think I specc'd an amazing car.... I hope you agree.

NOTE: the bordeaux alcantara is much lighter in real life than on the configurator pics here....

Onno

P.S. Andrew, can you please change the thread prefixes so that I can select something that matches my pending car? Personally, I think the prefixes are a waste of time, but maybe that is just me.

What a great mix. IF the red, as it seems, matches the rear lense color, then you have a win IMO.

The interior is simply unique to me and a very good pick.

Very nice.

Looks great

A few suggestions - black calipers with CF or Titanium center caps - not sure if you spec' the darker grey wheels but it would clean up the lines and give off a great contrast.

Black out the chrome horses and add a CF gas cap with a black horse

Onno, that will be a fantastic 458.

I was wondering, did you consider a Spyder at all?

One question at a time Barry!

I did seriously consider the Spider but don't want to wait until 2013. Plus I think the Berlinetta looks better. And I should have convertible next summer anyway.

@Rik - yes, I'm going for a mid-tone red that will match the rearlights, but it will be metallic, not plain. The configurator only has Mugello Red to approximate it.

@champagne612 - black or CF centre caps are very much on my list, so are the slightly darker rims. I will keep the calipers red.

Not sure what happened there - it was early morning (pre caffeine hit)

Will the calipers match the roof Onno?

PS - configurator pics look even better now on the laptop than it did on the iPhone... The real thing will be superb. There will be no way of keeping a low profile in Jersey with that machine.

PPS - will you hang on to the Cayman?

Very true!

Yes. The plan is that the 458 will spend the summers stored in the Netherlands and the winters in Jersey, so I will need my DD.

Not quite, they will be Rosso Corsa (only red option).

Onno[/QUOTE]

I have titanium center caps if you would like to try when the 458 arrives as they may be a good match the darker rims.

I can't blame you for the red calipers - I was tempted to respray mine and just couldn't do it

Only reason I tossed out those ideas was to compliment color choice on the tach.

I was incorrect there, you can also order Rosso Scuderia calipers. But those are lighter red, so I won't be choosing that.

Titanium centre caps are a nice idea.

Onno-
Absolutely beautiful and the most beautiful example of this car. I really can't imagine a better combo and couldn't have come up with it on my own. Again, beautiful, bill

Thanks Bill, very kind! We will be driving to Maranello today for a factory visit tomorrow. I will be back at the factory for finalising the specs in exactly a week. Very excited!

Woooww!!!

Congratulations Onno, a very gutsy and very beautiful colour combo! You are a very smart dressed man indeed by now! I am curious to know how it holds up on long consecutive days on journeys. Knowing that you have an awesome long tourer Ferrari in your stable (575) to compare with, I would appreciate your comments.

Enjoy!

Thanks Epwerkz & Capo.

I am also interested to see what it will be like as a GT. My 550 is certainly again giving me a great holiday at the moment.

Time at the factory yesterday was fantastic, and it was great seeing the 458 Spider up close. We saw a greatly specced one just off the line, with Bordeaux interior and metallic white (Bianco Avus?) exterior. Beautiful car, and I even hate white!

I saw some great ideas for my spec as well, which I will formalise next week Thursday. Can't wait! Seeing the 458 in black on the factory grounds confirmed for me that it is awesome. Very menacing and aggressive, which fits the car perfectly. In metallic (Nero Daytona), the curves still come out nicely so I really think that will be a great main colour. But - I have to say, Grigio Silverstone looked very nice too, and the Rosso Fuoco with black roof was stunning too.

Choices, choices.
