You can use them for quite a long time should you so wish, there is no set time limit, but you do have to apply for them in 1, 2 or 3 month slots if I have understood correctly. They have a lapse date stamped on the plate.

So my car will be on German plates for the first month or two (perhaps less), and then I will register it in Jersey as a second-hand car, paying GST in Jersey. I can then get the VAT back.

I will insure her through my Dutch insurer for full cover whilst she is on the German plates on top of the included 3-rd party of the Zoll Plates.

The German plates can be applied for as soon as you have the COC document, which is normally ready about 1 week before your car is. You do not have to physically bring the car to Germany, as long as the car complies with German regulations. So I can screw on the plates in Italy and drive off. I have already got this detachable license plate clip on the way from the US:

I have used the German Zoll plates a few times. You used to be able to get them for up to a year if my memory is correct ( might have been the Belgium equalivant). Just surprised that Italy does not have something similar.

Even if Italy would have something similar, I would still choose the German plates. Registering a Ferrari in Italy is something to avoid, if possible, these days.

One of my two Italia's is almost ready! Not all the details are correct yet, but I think she looks stunning and gives a great indication of her bigger sister's looks, who now has a new delivery date of 24 April. The biggest hurdle to overcome will be the factory delivery - it seems the whole of Western Europe wants to pick up their car at the factory and although we put it on the order in January already it seems it is hard to find a slot. So I do not know when I will take delivery. I think before FLED6 will be unlikely.

Hi Onno, fantastic model. Is it an Amalgam? I know they do customized 1/8 models.

Great looking car, Onno! Look forward to seeing it at FLED 6 (? hopefully.
Thank you for posting the licence plate clip site. I have been stopped few times for not having front plate. Do they apply the law very strictly for front plate in Scotland?

It really depends on the police officer.

As camera vans and police radar traps target their speed guns to the front number plate area, as it's a reflective material, I'd advise you at least have a front number plate in your car otherwise you could very well be in trouble if you get stopped by a Police Officer without a sense of humour!

If this happens just put the plate on your dashboard, before they reach your car, and hopefully that will get you off with just a warning, you could say it fell off or something similar, albeit I am not encouraging you to break the law of course

I always have it (full of scratches) inside the car, but never installed it so far. This clip from the USA may be the solution. The Ferrari engineer once told me that the big plate will affect the wind inflow into the engine anyway, so they recommended a sticker printed plate on the front bumper. I didn't like the idea because it may have unusual discolouration compare to the rest of the car.

You could always get one of these Gus & Onno as it's a retractable No plate holder and is a fantastic idea!

Hide Away Plate Holder Hide Away License Plate Holder [PLATEHOLD] - $60.00 : Swift Motorsports, Import Performance Starts Here

This company used to supply this plate with a remote control, if it was of interest you could always ask them

??? The engine is in the back. I am not aware of any big ducts going from the nose through (or under) the cabin to the engine, I think all the airflow comes from the openings near the rear quarter windows, and the end of the rear deck. Is your Ferrari engineer mistaken?

The airflow in front is to cool the radiator and for the aerodynamics, AFAIK.

@Peter - thanks for the link, but the other solution is on its way from the US so I'll try that first.

Onno

BTW - it is unlikely my 458 will be at FLED6.

Yes, sorry, he did say air inflow to the radiator...

I have also ordered the clip from the USA soon after your posting and it should be here for the FLED, in case Scottish police didn't like my excuse...

No news. Delivery date according to the factory print-out last week is next Tuesday. But seemingly no factory delivery slots. I don't know anything more than that. It's getting to be quite irritating. I wouldn't mind if the car was ready in a month, just as long as I know. Without knowing, I can't make any plans.

Regarding insurance - no solution yet. Boxer's insurance agent has promised to come back to me today.

Yes, thanks so much Boxer for your help. We can sort it out, I just have to take out another 12 months insurance with a different company, although mileage would be limited to 3k which is really not enough. Need to talk to Vitalone to see what we will do. Frankly Peter was also very surprised about my problem and didn't understand that a person with a legal EU driving license couldn't be insured on my policy. It seems I have gone into bed with a cheap skate company, which doesn't give much promise for paying out should the unthinkable happen. A re-insurance might have to be the way to go. Expensive lesson.

Regarding the 458 - it looks like I will only be able to get a factory delivery slot at the end of May.
