These pics do look like the typical Photoshopped Ferrari releases. We will see whether they are or not soon.

Although I like the car, I do not think it can compete with the Berlinetta. Particularly from the rear the design looks disjointed without the roofline, much more than the F430 spider.

I prefer the coupe!

I think it's the real deal - look at the other pictures.

It shows a ton of detail especially over the engine.

Beautiful and the dealers who had seen it confirmed they had to jettison the glass engine cover to make room for the top. I think it looks like pure sex. If it only had a V12, I would be interested. If I could afford it, which I cannot. Here are the photos for anyone too lazy to click on the url.

The local Ferrari center here sent the link over to me earlier today - claims they are Ferrari photo's.

I recall someone saying Ferrari is dropping a V12 in a 458 for a rock star.

The 458 Scud is rumored to be called EVO

I agree this car is ridiculously well done and it's beyond sold out.

Doug- Affirmative, I think it was Eric Clapton. That should be unbelievable since I believe it has a 599 GTO engine with another 100 or so hp more than the puny 570 hp V8.

At least one person knows how to spend his money properly.

Exactly ... I hope Ferrari makes a few more like Aston is doing with the Vantage.

My neighbor has one and it's a rocket as he also has a 458.

I think he writes two letters to Ferrari every night before bed!

One for the next supercar slot and then another for the 458 Scuderia.

There is no replacement for 700 hp which seems to be the new number.

I can't argue that - just a fan of all that CF and the fact it's a race car out of the box convertible is perfection.

The only thing I see as competition is the CGT. I was seriously considering a CGT and if the right one came along at 225 it would be tough to say no ty.

But the 16M with that F1 just does it for me - a car that could be with me for a very long time.

I hate selling stuff - it just kills me for some reason.

So I need to pick my toys carefully.

Convertible race car just does not make sense to me.

On the CGT, great car but have you considered a Koenigsegg?

Thing is - how often are you on a road in Tuscany? Coupes look better and are more practical. If you're on holiday in a convertible you're always open and closing the hood (can't leave the car open when parked), you can't drive it open fast because all your route maps will fly away, you need to re-arrange your hair everytime you stop, you (well I do) feel a bit of tool cruising through a town exposed, and you (well I) get sunburn on your receding hairline.

I think it's safe to say that I'm not all together sold on the top-down concept. It's more of a fantasy drive thing than a real world thing. But if I could take a 16M on a 2 day fantasy drive in Tuscany, I'd be a very happy man!

Nice post!

One issue you mentioned which is grinded on me is the tool feeling.

For some reason modern convertibles do scream tool and it is a PIA to deal with if you go anywhere.

I have been restoring a Healey and the first thing I looked for was a hard top to restore.

Maybe you guys have a point and I have read the the top ain't cheap if it breaks.

If the hard top actually retracts into the split engine cover per the 'leaked' PS images, I would imagine service on the top side of the engine will be damn difficult.

Daniel- You could not work on it with the top down, for sure. Luckily, no need to access cam belts, since she does not have any.

No cambelts, no valve shims to change, no distributor, and no spark plug wires (except for switching current). Bloody things are getting closer and closer to a wooden round. No wonder they can afford to throw in 7 years of free servicing.

On the road you are describing, I would much prefer a 430 Spider with a manual 6 speed gearbox.

The beauty of the Scud was in the Alps with that fantastic engine braking.
