Default New 458

I took delivery of my 458 on Tuesday. It was a present from my Dad and Brother. I usually don't like getting joint presents but in this case I've defininatly made an exception. It's my first Ferrari, or exotic of any kind, WHAT A CAR!!! I look forward to participating in the forum. Pictures to follow.

Congratulations, Andy!!

I am happy for you what you are about to experience with your fine 458. I never had a brother but I can see by what you are saying that it can be quite nice... What colour is your 458?

Titanium, which looks amazing. It is insanely quick. I have a four year old son and every time I take my foot off the throttle he screams, "do it again Dad!", which is exactly how I feel. Pure joy on four wheels.

congrats. be very careful with it if you have never owned an exotic. you are jumping in at the deep end. with the whirlpool. The car is deceptively fast and can get you in trouble before you can change the radio station. Having said that, give it the italian tune up every chance you get! are you in washington dc or state?

Flames was only really an option on the early cars. Seems Ferrari has switched from glue to rivets on the current batch.

On the mellowing......doubtful

Washington State fortunately. We live North of Seattle, and just into the countryside. The roads around here make a nice playground assuming the precipitation and temperature cooperate. And it isn't nearly as full of pinheads who think they should run everyones lives as the other Washington.

Thanks for the cautioning, the car is very quick and I'm determined not to be sending it to the body shop, so I am driving within my limitations.

Yes and no; The Manettino is your friend. Rain is always rain however and winter temperatures never charm the tyres like summer temperatures do. Keep this in mind and accept a flexible approach to the Manettino. When conditions are favourable; turn it a nodge above your default level, and vice versa. The car is stunningly good. Take it to the track to really look it into its eyes!

The manettino is both your friend and your biggest risk. Don't let it lure you into a false sense of security. All the high tech modern stability systems are really great at keeping you on the road and compensating for mistakes......up to the point when you push just that fraction too far and ........... they don't

Yes, well it is your friend and you shouldn't presume on a friendship...

But it doesn't seem fair somehow. Have we ever not obliged when the petrol light flicks on and he wants another full tank? -Or wants to be shod? -Or when he gets all headstrong and won't go anywhere unless we put a girl in the passenger seat?

It reminds me of a driving song I sometimes sing when driving:

Old Faithful, we ride the roads together
Old Faithful, in every kinds of weather
And at Shell when pulling over,
There's a gas tank full of clover
For you, Old Faithful, pal of mine

Hurry up Cavallino, the roads all dried out last night
Hurry up Cavallino, the sun is shining so bright

Your engine's been howling at the moon all night
Oh, carry me back to the roads I love
Hurry up Cavallino 'cause we gotta get out and ride

Old Faithful, we ride the roads together
Old Faithful, in every kinds of weather
And when your P-Zeros are gone,
There's a new set to put on
For you, Old Faithful, pal of mine

Well, like someone on this forum always says; "a horse is just a horse, unless..." Unless it's the Cavallino Old Faithful...

I'm trying to picture you singing that at the top of your voice as you carve through the Alps... What tune do you sing it to??

Barry!

Look up "Old Faithful" with Rex Allen on iTunes and tune in...! It is the old country song of the humble and hardworking roundup horse Old Faithful. It's the best Ferrari song there is to sing when you sing it with my lyrics...!

Here's an instrumental version so you can sing it with my lyrics, Barry!
