Default FF in real life

We had a briefing by one of the engineers responsible for developing the FF and it really has been designed first and foremost as a drivers car and they have used many parameters from the 599 as a benchmark for it.

The frontal styling is the best resolved design I've seen from Ferrari in a number of years. The lights do not look anything like the 458 in person. They have a very subtle curvature in the glass that follows the crease line from the wing top and flows into the corner of the front bumper. You simply don't see this in the pics posted thus far. The rear looks great and far more sculpted than the pic's convey and there is a lot of aero trickery going on there.

I'd strongly suggest that before you make up your mind on this car you reserve your final judgement until you see one in the metal and can sit in it. You may be in for a pleasant surprise. It has real presence from the front with a very wide and low stance.

The interior is lovely especially when trimmed with the new aniline leather which looks extremely luxurious. I'm 6'1" and could sit comfortably in the rear with a 5'10" driver in front. There wasn't acres of room but nor did I feel at all cramped. The designers have paid lots of attention to the detailing on the interior.

The trunk space of the FF is larger than the Panamera by volume. The fitted luggage set has 5 cases. The centre section between the rear seats can be folded down and and a full size ski bag will comfortably fit in and still allow for passengers to travel in comfort. Standard golf bags will comfortably fit in the trunk and they say a full size competition bag will fit in with the centre section between the seats folded they said. They had some very nice bespoke golf bags on display in matching cuoio leather. Each rear seat also folds down allowing quite a versatile luggage/passenger layout mix. Rear seat space is better than the 612 I was told (I've never sat in the back of one of those).

The 4 wheel drive system is very clever and very light weight for such a system so I should imagine it will filter across to other models in time as it improves performance and driveability by controlling loss of power to any wheel.

I find that is usually true for most cars (vehicles). I'm assuming it's a PininFarina design, which are usually great......I'm really looking foward to seeing the Geneva Show pictures.
As I said before, I'm very fond of the sportwagen/shooting brake/break de chasse type..........
I envy you having a private viewing.....
Cheers!

I would like to see it in person prior to making a final judgement but the pictures and video have me thinking that this will one day be a huge collector's item 50 years from now especially if it truly flops. Analagous to coin collectors who desire low mintage coins with errors, will the FF clasify? Time will tell! Along that line of thought, the decision to buy may be a win-win situation? You possibly win if its well received and you win if you are a collector and its a flop!

Life is short. Enjoy It!

That doesn't sound right to me. Cars that flop new generally stay flops among collectors so buying one new is a lose-lose.

If it's $400k new then in 10 years or so it will be about 20% the new price or about $80k and that will be the time to buy one if you think it's destine to become collectable. History has shown time and time again that 4 seat Ferraris are not wise investments and it can take 50 year before the dollar number you get at resale time is the same as the new number....but in corrected numbers I'm not sure any 4 seat ferrari has hit the breakeven point yet and I certainly wouldn't expect this one to be the first.

You would buy one new because you like it and you want to drive it and don't mind losing lots of money for the experience and the joy it brings you I would think.

The guys snapping the pics like to shoot from angles you'll never actually see the car from for some reason..... I guess they think it's artistic.

There are some nice lines on the FF but over-all it seems an acquired taste or a car you grow to love more than a love at first sight kind of thing....or practical vs passion. I'm sure it would be a joy to drive, but I think very few will be stopped in their tracks upon seeing it.

Thanks Iain for the write up, greatly appreciated. Look forward to seeing the FF in person now.

Yes, I posted for the 1st time, recently joined, and also just bought my 1st Ferrari. I'm wondering exactly what is suspect? Would you care to elaborate for those of us who don't understand what you are trying to say? Thanks

Sorry, but we had a wave of spammers. They would come in, make one legitmate post to make themselves look legit, and then go on a spamming wave shortly thereafter. It was a real pain to clean up but it is all sorted now.

Welcome, we're a friendly bunch here. It is traditional that you do tell us a bit more about yourself, and pics of your new baby are definitely welcomed in the Introduction section!

Boxer explained it, we usually have the same crowd of people and once in a while we get a newbie show up for posts (they are always welcome) but so many in such a short time with no other post, sometimes it’s plain spam as Boxer said.

You mentioned you bought your first Ferrari, most usually come in saying hello, I’m a new owner and introduce themselves, post pictures talk about their buying experience etc. Some even go as far as post their serial # in the serial# section.

Your first post was a random comment in the middle of the thread like as if we had already met you and you had been a member for a year or more…but this is not the case.

Usually after a post like mine, most would come in and say…sorry forgot to introduce myself or would not care to feel the need to justify themselves because they really are owners. But those who spam or want to talk trash, or play “I will pretend I own a Ferrari” they go on defense mode. We are not new to this…..

So where do you fall into all of this??? Personally? Dont know and don’t care….you asked so I’m replying back letting you know why, nothing personal.

What Andrew said, ditto

Personally, I'm holding onto my money until they release the Ferrari SUV followed shortly by the Ferrrai Minivan. It will be a tough call for me (NOT).

If I had the money I would love to own the Lamborghini LM....

I wonder if Ferrari will ever go down that path someday?!?!?!?!

I love harsh bulky and big rides, probably why I absolutely love the Hummer H1.

I almost bought the H1 about 2 years ago and took it ouf for a drive in the snow and OMG....what a ride. I knew the salesman very well and he took me to a cool spot.

I didn't buy it because the PPI wasn't so great and the price was 12K too high for what it needed to get done.
