Interesting. I think I like it but I'd like to see it in the flesh.
Is it getting added to the Boxer fleet?

I think this 512BB is really an acquired taste. And not one that I will be working on to acquire.

Boxer, did you see the price they are asking for it?? US$ 285K!!!!!!!!! =P very VERY expensive!!

I used to have a picture of a red 512 BB Spider as my desktop wallpaper

but I had never seen it in white

how many 512 BB Spiders were made?

here are all the pictures of convertible 512 BBs that I have (are all of them 512 BBi? I´m not sure - did some research and it seems like yes, they are all 512 BBi)

now take a look at this soft roof: it looks B-A-D!!! Maybe that's where Pininfarina find it's inspiration to design the 550 Barchetta's roof =P

I think I prefer the Berlinetta, like it was meant to be

I agree. Boxers were ment to be Berlinettas. Never seen a conversion on one that looked "right". If anything, maybe they could have done a Targa version but I think even that would have weaken the body significantly.

Well, they are called BB for a reason, right?

If you're going to take the roof out, why not just place a 4 cylinder engine and save fuel while you enjoy the wind?

Some cars just HAVE to be the way they were created, and the 512 BB is a great example of that.

Great idea! Then you would have room to put in a large trunk where the other 8 cylinders used to be. Image a 512BB with luggage space !

R. Straman built a couple of targas. I could live with one of these.

Here are a few more targa conversions
The black targa was used in Straman's bochure.
The red car in the brochure is probably this car in Colorado.
Another with yet a different B pillar treatment
and one with the side glass still place S/N 45275.

The one on the far right, with the rear side glass still in place looks OK. Overall though, IMHO, this is one car better left as a Berlinetta.

Not sure it would even be possible to reinforce the body properly to compensate for the cut roof. Anyone know how the cut cars handle ?

I just checked, the link still works but you have to click the other areas of the site to get to the white 512 BB Spider conversion.

http://www.dealer.ferrari.com/garagezenith/

then click:

VEHICULES D'OCCASION

then click:

Classic Ferraris

then click the picture of the white 512 BB Spider

Doesn't cutting the top off kinda defeat the purpose of the design. Some cars may look okay as a spider, but not the 512.
