Default 1979 512 BB On Offer

On offer from Mike Sheehan...

We are pleased to offer 1979 Ferrari 512 BB s/n 29943. This unusually nice 512 BB has had only four well-documented owners from new and features a highly detailed and better-than-new engine compartment. It has just been fully serviced and needs nothing. Complete with all tools, the owner's manual, parts book and the correct thin spare. Only 18,679 original kilometers or 11,580 miles from new. This car is exceptionally nice, needs absolutely no excuses made and will not disappoint. We welcome a detailed pre-purchase inspection. Considerably faster than a Daytona at less than 1/2 the cost and priced right at $109,500.

This Euro-model carbureted 512 BB is well documented from new and is fully serviced and ready to go. It is in Euro-spec as Enzo intended and does not have the usual ugly Federalized bumpers, side markers, and power killing catalysts and smog equipment. Because it is over 30 years old it is exempt from the onerous EPA and DOT regulations. Finished in excellent original Rossa Corsa paint with the correct black "Boxer-bottom". Has an unusually nice all black leather interior (no cloth inserts) with an excellent dash without the shrinkage so common on most Boxers. Has the attractive and desirable 9" rear "Boxer" wheels with the correct Michelin XWX tires.

The carbureted Boxers are much faster than the injected Boxers, and with only 929 carbureted BBs built, the carbureted Boxers have always been more collectable.

Good price for a seemingly good example.

Lovely carburettor roar. The 512 doesn't quite have the manic screaming at the top end because of lower maximum revs (compared to the 365) but it is a lot more torquey than that first car. These cars take a little to get going - off the line they're not so great (and 365's burn lots of clutches...), but once on the move they really are impressive. The one thing that you really, really, "GET" when driving one is that this was the bees-knees of the 1970's. You really feel very special when you drive one, it's a raw and unreal experience. A playboy's toy, but the old type of playboy, the one that flew old warplanes and went racing in the weekend whilst wearing out celebrity's wifes in the caravan between races. He would drive a BB to the circuit!

Compared to a 1960's Ferrari it feels more modern, but compared to even a 328 it feels ancient. In many ways my 330GTC, even though 8 years older, is much easier to drive than my Boxers. It was an uncompromising machine. But in the same breath, it was also a bit of a confused concept at first glance. It's not a race car, not at all. At the same time, it is too uncomfortable and raw to be a fast GT. So what is it? In the end, you should really view it as a car built solely for driving fast on flowing roads. I think the modern kindred spirit is the 430 Scuderia, or the 360 CS, although the Boxer is a fraction more GT. Nonetheless, it's a car built for the driver only, a car to have fun in. Can't wait to drive mine again!

Hi Onno

Oh, sounds like a dream car.....Hmm.

A car as you say, to have fun in, with.
Maybe one day........But, I guess it is not a ideal first time Ferrari.
But, boy it looks so good. A real playboy toy........

This car looks great and cheap for the condition but I don't understand If she was delivered new in Germany http://www.ferraris-online.com/pages...FE-512BB-29943 or by the French Importer Ch. POZZI ... ?? (All Originals French Ferrari have this "Tag")
