Does anybody know of a less expensive alternative to the very pricey OEM motor mounts?

The reason I posted this question was because before I bought my 1991 T the PPi indicated I had one motor mount leaking a bit of fluid. Since the mount is hydraulic I was led to believe this was a prelude to failure of the mount. The mounts are horribly expensive. Has anybody had this issue?

I have heard from many reliable accounts of persons modifying one brand of 355 mounts. From the pics I saw, they needed to use the existing mount flanges on the Mondial and attach the 355 mounts to it with a weld and some spacers. The attachment holes are not exact, so a bit of fixing is in order not to mention removing the line-up peg[s]. The 355 vs the almost $1,300+/- 348 mounts are a huge savings. I also believe the middle hole, where the 355 actually protrudes through, needs a bit of enlarging. Didn't seem to faze many qualified mechs. If it were me, I'd be inclined to do it. Thanks for the info. I have not really picked up any problems related to the mounts. I will probably keep my head in the sand and hope for the best.

I have a '90, and noticed no problems, but I probably will replace --perhaps not due to costs -- the mounts since then engine is out. Replacing in situ is is a bit more involved than just 'jacking up' then engine like some other models.

When/IF the time comes, I'll most likely use non-OEM Mondial T mounts. BUT a composition of 355 mated to the T's original mounts which means I'll salvage the T's and modify using 355 mounts. THen again, If I hit the lottery................ Guide to the Galaxy: Don't Panic Rik -- LAH ! Current: 1990 Mondial T Cabriolet : Red/Tan 1995 456 GT 2+2 : Roso Metalizzato [Fer 311/C] & Tan | |
