Ferrari 308/328 Digiplex Ground Modification

By: Jeremy Lawrence
This is a simple modification to beef up the grounding of the two digiplex computers on 308s and 328s. A poor ground circuit causes additional internal heat to the components and premature failure of the units.

Time: Approximately 30 minutes

Tools required:
10mm socket (All nuts and bolts are 10mm)
Wire cutter/ stripper/ crimper tool
(2) 12 gage wires cut to about 12” in length.
(4) Wire terminals

Example car: 1985 308QV

Procedure:

First off you need to remove the two carpet pieces in the driver’s side of the trunk.

Once they are removed, there are four (4) 10mm bolts holding the computer panel down. Remove these bolts, and you can lift the computers out pretty easily.

Next step is to make the two ground wires (very simple and straight forward). I made mine about 12” long to allow easy removal of the computer panel in the future.

Once you have the ground wires made it is time to install them. Pick one nut from each computer to attach the ground wire. I chose the two closest to the ground on the frame.

Once the nuts are loose, attach the ground wire to the computer and re-tighten the nuts.

The next step is to complete the ground to the frame. There is an existing ground wire attached to the rear of the computer tub. Using the 10mm socket, remove the bolt to allow you to attach the two new ground wires and re-tighten.

Re-install the computer plate into the box, tighten the bolts, and replace the carpet.

You're done.
